It is a widely regarded fact that competitive multiplayer games require constant balancing in order to ensure that a meta can't take over the game for years on end. Patches are consistently released for MOBA titles like DOTA 2 and League of Legends, as well as for fast-paced shooters like Valorant and Overwatch 2. With Overwatch 2 having just entered its second beta phase, players on all platforms are getting access to the game before the final version is released, and fans are already seeing some major changes they like and some they definitely don't.

One hero that has received changes that fans aren't too happy with is Mercy. Many believe the alterations made to her Guardian Angel ability have unnecessarily nerfed the hero even though she otherwise fit just fine into the Overwatch 2 meta. Fans are even less happy with the current state of Symmetra, who has been changed to a point where players now believe she cannot keep up with the faster meta of Overwatch 2's 5v5 gameplay. However, just a week after the Overwatch 2 beta entered its second phase, Blizzard is letting fans know it has listened to the feedback.

According to a recent developer blog from Blizzard, both Mercy and Symmetra will be undergoing some major changes in response to community feedback. First, Blizzard outlines that Mercy's "Super Jump" that she experiences due to her Guardian Angel ability in Overwatch was a bug and not an intended feature. Therefore, there were some initial problems when making it a legitimate part of Mercy's loadout in Overwatch 2. Now, Blizzard wants to increase the flexibility of the ability, while also making it so players don't launch into the air straight away to make themselves perfect sniper targets.

Symmetra will be getting some more substantial changes to her kit, as Blizzard acknowledges it made her a hero that didn't fully fit with Overwatch 2 given the nerfs and quickness of the new game. Now, Symmetra's teleporter cooldown has been reduced, and her Secondary Fire is also getting some buffs in terms of its charge time and projectile size. Whether this will return Symmetra to how powerful she used to be in Overwatch is unknown, but it should at least make her playable.

Finally, Blizzard ended the developer blog with some notes on the newest hero to join Overwatch 2 called Junker Queen. Due to many players wanting to try the new hero, Tank queue times have surged in Overwatch 2, something that Blizzard expected but wants to improve on. Currently, the developer thinks Junker Queen is in a good place, but will continue to watch her as the beta goes on. Currently, heroes like Zenyatta and Sojourn are being watched as two characters that may need future changes.

Overwatch 2 is currently in development. The second public beta is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S until July 18.
