The first beta for Overwatch 2 is out now, and many players are already doing a bit of myth busting to find out how the new abilities can be countered. One test involved Bastion and his new Ultimate from Overwatch 2, with a Genji player finding that the Artillery Strike can be deflected.

Bastion’s Overwatch 2 rework has made him significantly more fun to play, with many content creators and players discussing how much more fun he is in the new game. Alongside the ability to move around while in turret form and launch into the air with a grenade, Bastion’s new Ultimate swaps out Tank mode with an Artillery Strike. This Artillery Strike allows players to mark three points, with explosives hitting them soon after they are marked. With how quick the projectiles land after being launched, and serious damage being dealt, this is an incredibly deadly Ultimate.

With it being so hard to escape from Bastion’s new Ultimate, it makes sense that players would be interested in finding a counter to it. Intriguingly, TrainOW on Reddit looked to Genji and his deflect for the solution. This makes some sense, as not only was Genji an excellent counter to the original Bastion since he could get up close and reflect the turret’s bullets back at him, but he is known to counter many Ultimates. From Mei’s Blizzard to Hanzo’s Dragonstrike, a good Genji has always excelled at sending Ultimates back at his foes.

However, one would not expect Bastion’s new Ultimate to be deflectable simply because it comes down from above. While Genji deflecting the things that come right at him makes sense, it would be far more difficult to block something falling from above. Despite this, TrainOW found that it was possible. After several failed attempts, they manage to hit deflect at the exact time the Ultimate comes toward them. Since they were looking at Bastion when they did it, they managed to kill the Omnic with their own Artillery Strike.

Obviously, this will be extremely difficult to pull off in actual Overwatch 2 matches, as the timing to hit a deflect - let alone hit the Bastion with the deflected Ultimate - needs to be perfect. Still, the fact that it is possible is exciting, and many Genji players looking to make some highlight reels will have a new opportunity to do so in the sequel. While most will not be able to get the timing right, at least not without a lot of practice, those that have mastered the Cyborg Ninja will still be a threat to Bastion.

With the Overwatch 2 beta just a few days old, gamers will likely see some more interesting discoveries made in the coming days. From flanking with Colosseo’s hidden path to pulling off this special Genji deflect, there are clearly some fun things to in the sequel.
