Overwatch 2 rewards bold and creative plays, such as the one of a Baptiste player highlighting how they saved an allied Ana from Mei's onslaught with a perfectly timed application of their ultimate. Playing as a healer in Overwatch 2 can sometimes be an exercise in frustration. Each healer has their play style and excels in different situations, from the precision heals of Ana to the group-wide restoration of Mercy, but any healer would have difficulty saving a teammate from a point-blank enemy ultimate.

Haitian medic Baptiste joined the roster in February 2019 with a skill set that rewards well-timed healing during close firefights. Regenerative Burst heals Baptiste and nearby allies with a brief burst of health followed by more health over time. Immortality Field, which was briefly even more powerful during the Overwatch 2 beta, prevents allies within the area of effect from dying. The situation that sets up the video clip involves a Baptiste out of range for Regenerative Burst and with an Immortality Field that is on cooldown.

Baptiste's player, Juv, when faced with the situation of a key ability on cooldown and out of range for the burst heal, decided to defensively deploy Amplification Matrix which doubles both damage and healing. A key part of Juv's healing saving Ana successfully came from their timing. From the multiple points of view in the clip, it is clear that the opposing Mei caught two heroes in her ultimate, Ana and a Zayra, right next to each other. Juv deployed the Baptiste ultimate after Mei's ultimate froze his teammates but early enough that the first projectile hit Ana right after Mei's first shot. Each time Mei does damage, Baptiste's healing projectile lands and negates all the damage. Recent Mei changes in the latest Overwatch 2 patch improved the freeze of her ultimate and increased her DPS output, which puts Juv's actions in a more heroic light.

The top comment on the Reddit post is from another Baptiste player admitting they forget Amplification Matrix can be used defensively. Another popular comment reflects the same sentiment by lamenting how they have never seen a Baptiste player use his ultimate defensively. Going by Reddit comments, it's more common to see a healer disregard their teammates as highlighted by Moira ignoring a critically low-health Bastion.

A common sentiment of Overwatch 2 players that have viewed this clip, which has over 1.3k upvotes, is that Juv demonstrated remarkably quick thinking. Different players use Baptiste's abilities in different ways with the offensive use of Amplification Matrix to double all damage from projectiles that pass through it is the most common use case compared to healing teammates. While a lot of heroes are capable of healing, including new Overwatch 2 support hero Kiriko, getting a great healer on your team can be the difference between winning and losing.

Balancing out the diametrically opposed defensive and offensive capabilities of each hero will continue to be a fine balancing act as Blizzard continues supporting Overwatch 2. However, the Baptiste play from Juv's clip gives hope that everyone can experience well-timed, well-positioned, life-saving clutch heals.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
