During E3 2018's PC Gaming show about a couple of months ago, Overkill Software and Starbreeze Studios put out a gameplay video for the companies’ forthcoming The Walking Dead project, with the clip showing how players will take on the roles of the game's various survivors. Upon its reveal, some criticized the gameplay footage for displaying stiff animations, mundane combat mechanics, and poor audio cues causing many players to hope that Starbreeze and Overkill would push back the title to accommodate more time for polish. As it so happens, this could be happening for the console versions at least, as the game has been delayed on PS4 and Xbox One.

According to Starbreeze Studios, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Overkill’s The Walking Dead have been delayed from the previously planned November 6, 2018 launch in North America and November 8, 2018 release in Europe, and will now officially be hitting store shelves on February 2019 worldwide. Interestingly enough, though, the PC iteration of the first-person shooter will still come out on November 6, 2018.

As explained by Starbreeze, Overkill's The Walking Dead on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is being postponed due to 505 Games – the owner of the publishing rights to the console version – wanting to "ensure a simultaneous release of the console version digitally and in stores to achieve optimal marketing impact and maximize sales". With this being the case, it will be interesting to see how the game's quality will fare on PC at launch in November.

From what has been shown of Overkill's The Walking Dead thus far, one can only hope that the game's development team uses the extra months in between the PC launch and console release to refine the PS4 and Xbox One versions as much as possible. And taking all of this into account, there's a chance that Starbreeze and Overkill could have also agreed with 505 Games to release the title on PC first in order to gauge the general public's reaction to the project before considerably refining it where needed, be it in the environments, enemy AI, or even how the playable characters themselves handle.

Overkill's The Walking Dead is set to release on November 6, 2018 for PC, and will launch at some point in February 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
