Horror fans have been eagerly waiting to play Overkill's The Walking Dead, but unfortunately they will have to be patient for a while longer yet. Starbreeze Studios has announced that the game is facing another delay, with the launch window for the title now being pushed back to the second half of 2018.
According to Starbreeze, the release date for the game, based on the acclaimed The Walking Dead comic series, has been delayed so that the team at Overkill can ensure that the title reaches its full potential, with an aim to create an unforgettable gaming experience for fans. Apparently, the game clearly needs some more work to make sure that it lives up to what the development team wants to achieve.
However, those after more information on the game in general are in with a bit of good news. Starbreeze is running an exclusive streaming event called Star Stream on May 10, which will give some insight into the development of Overkill's The Walking Dead. Starting at 9 a.m. PST on Twitch, the event will also show off Payday 2, System Shock 3, Psychonauts 2, and Dead by Daylight, as well as a panel dubbed 'Veterans of the Industry' that includes the likes of Warren Spector and Tim Schafer.
Hopefully, fans of the horror series will find some kind of solace in the news that more details surrounding the game will be available come May 10, but the announcement of a further delay is bound to be disappointing. After all, the game has already been subject to many delays, with the most recent one pushing the game back to a 2017 release that many hoped would still be attainable.
It's particularly frustrating for fans because of the sheer excitement that had surrounded the game upon its reveal. After all, when the game was announced with an intriguing trailer and news broke about a cross-platform release, many were hoping that the title would finally give The Walking Dead fans a chance to play a quality action-focused game in the universe after fumbled attempts like The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct.
As such, a delay to 2018 is disappointing for many, particularly after the game was seen by some as one of the most anticipated horror games of 2017. Hopefully, when progress on the project is more widely revealed, the game will end up being of the level many are expecting.
Overkill's The Walking Dead will be released in the second half of 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
