There's still a lot we don't know about Overkill's The Walking Dead video game, but the studio has hinted at what fans can expect from the upcoming first-person shooter. Language in a recent press release seems to suggest that The Walking Dead will have base building mechanics of some sort, though we can't confirm or deny the feature's existence one way or another at this point in time.

In the press release, Overkill Software says that "players will band together with up to three friends on a variety of missions and raids, securing supplies and survivors to strengthen their base camp against the threat of both the dead and the living." While Overkill doesn't explicitly state that the game will have base building, the fact that players will be gathering survivors and supplies to "strengthen" their base camp does seem to indicate that some kind of base building mechanics will be in the game.

Another hint that some kind of base building mechanics will be in The Walking Dead stems from the first character that has been revealed for the game. We know that all four playable characters will have their own special abilities, and the character Aidan's past as an engineer/architect could hint that his skill tree ties into improving the base camp.

Of course, that's just speculation at this time. We aren't quite sure what Aidan's special ability is, and it's possible that it has nothing to do with his life before the zombie apocalypse. Ultimately, fans will just have to wait until Overkill is ready to reveal more about the game to learn whether base building is one of its features or not.

When Overkill does decide to reveal more about its upcoming The Walking Dead game, hopefully it clarifies some other rumors about the title. For example, the same press release has fueled rumors that Overkill's The Walking Dead will have raid missions of some sort, but there still hasn't been any clarification on that front.

Besides feature confirmations, it will be interesting to learn about all four playable characters that fans can choose from as we near The Walking Dead's launch next year.

Overkill's The Walking Dead is releasing in fall 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
