Overcooked has already celebrated its 5th birthday, and to mark the cooking-sim’s milestone, Ghost Town Games released a free update for Overcooked! All You Can Eat on PC and consoles in August of 2021, in honor of this anniversary.
The collection contains the first Overcooked, Overcooked 2, and all the DLC for both games—and it allows players to interact cross-platform with each other. However, those that own the original version of Overcooked 2 might be wondering if All You Can Eat’s crossplay feature is available on their version of the game.

The game has remained a staple for parties and social gatherings, with its feverishly addictive co-op gameplay and tantalizing recipes. In the last year, Team17 has turned up the heat and added some spice with its meaty compilation, Overcooked All You Can Eat.
This appealing package brings spruced-up visuals, new content, and fully-integrated online support for both Overcooked romps. And what's more, this release also brings vastly expanded cross-platform play; an addition that surely warrants a revisiting and update of this piece.
What Platforms Is The Game On?
- Overcooked 2 has now been released for: Nintendo Switch, Windows/Mac (Steam and Epic Games Store), macOS, Linux, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Amazon Luna.
- Overcooked All You Can Eat is now available for Nintendo Switch, Windows (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Is Overcooked 2 Crossplay?
The base game of Overcooked 2 still only has very limited crossplay. Those playing on Steam and the Epic Games Store can play together on PC with up to four players. However, console users on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch are not able to play Overcooked 2 cross-platform with friends.
Until recently the family-friendly title was not crossplay enabled on any platform, but it received an update when given out for free on the Epic Games Store. However, the free giveaway and crossplay support initially created problems for the PC version, and a rollback was needed to make the PC versions playable with friends again.
However, with the release of All You Can Eat comes fully-supported cross-platform play at long last. This means that not only can gamers playing on Steam and the Epic Games Store play together on PC (with up to four players), but console players can now play with those on other consoles and PC. This is available for all levels including co-op in story levels.
Other Important Crossplay Information
Keep in mind, this universal crossplay only applies to All You Can Eat, while the original Overcooked 2 retains only limited crossplay amongst PC gamers.
Overcooked 2 is a game that is best enjoyed with friends, so those wanting to take advantage of the co-op fun will have to upgrade to the more accessible All You Can Eat edition to play with friends and family on other platforms. As a side note: Cross-platform settings can be switched off in the game settings if players so choose.
Game Pass
Overcooked 2 players on Game Pass PC cannot play with their PC friends. The Overcooked! All You Can Eat version is not included with the subscription service, and the original game does not have full cross-platform support on Microsoft’s Store. Reportedly, friend invites are also not currently supported for online play in the Game Pass version.
Since All You Can Eat is currently not available for Game Pass players, the included version doesn't have all the features that come with this, including crossplay. This also applies to the Steam and Epic Games Store.
How To Set Up A Cross-Platform Game In Overcooked 2 (All You Can Eat)
For players that have the All You Can Eat edition and online functionality, this is how to connect and play games with those across other platforms:
- Press the corresponding button for "manage team" on the Team17 multiplayer hub

Click on "online play", and a window showing the player's online friends will pop up. Alternatively, players can opt to click on "search wireless" to randomly connect to online games cross-platform. From here, players can invite friends to their game or jump into their games.
- The game should prompt players to create a Team17-specific ID the first time the game is launched. This acts as the universal name others can connect to across different platforms.
- Go to either the Campaign or Arcade and start the match.

Other Ways To Play With Friends
Overcooked 2 can be enjoyed locally with up to four people, as long as there are enough controllers to go around. The game also includes a feature that lets two people control two different characters with one controller. Switch users already have two controllers with the Joy-Cons, so this feature is unfortunately not included with the Pro Controller or Switch Lite.
Players can even combine online and local co-op to play with those in the same household as them, and with friends elsewhere. Two players can take part in a split-screen game with one or two others online.
Can Save Data Be Transferred?
While multiplayer has been made more flexible in terms of connectivity, the same is not true for save files. Although All You Can Eat uses remastered versions of the first two Overcooked titles, it's still separate software, which means save files from the original two games won't carry over.
Additionally, save files are locked on the specific platform that gamers play on, and can't be transferred from one to another.
