The Outriders: Worldslayer expansion is less than a month away, and developer People Can Fly has guaranteed plenty of content and challenges worthy of a return to the world of Enoch. Released in April 2021, Outriders was praised for its gameplay, customization options, graphics, world design, and multiplayer, with criticism aimed at its story, dialogue, and technical issues. With the success of its New Horizon update, which added new endgame expeditions, weapons, gear, and transmog options, People Can Fly doesn’t appear to be putting an end to its action-RPG looter-shooter anytime soon. Due to high digital sales, publisher Square Enix seems firmly behind the IP.

Outriders: Worldslayer is a fully realized story expansion that will send players to the furthest corners of Enoch to discover more about the Anomaly. Facing off against a new Altered enemy, Erishkigal, players will explore the more alien history and locations of the planet. New campaigns, enemy varieties, weapons, an Ascension endgame progression system, and a PAX skill tree for the original four classes are just some content arriving soon. With additional skills in play, Outriders will provide powerful builds to wield the full potential of the Anomaly.

The PAX in Outriders

The original inhabitants of Enoch were intelligent, peaceful humanoid beings that harnessed the mysterious energy of the Anomaly through obelisks that granted them abilities like the Altered. While not initially able to channel such power, the PAX learned how to use the obelisks to create lush and diverse environments on Enoch so that they would no longer have to live in caves. The true nature of the obelisks and their relation to the Anomaly has yet to be revealed.

When the human colony ship Caravel arrived at Enoch before the Flores, the PAX worshipped these colonists as gods. The captain of the Caravel, Monroy, feared the PAX would eventually use their powers to destroy humanity and began a mass extermination while trying how to harness the Anomaly. Faced with destruction, the PAX stabbed themselves with Anomaly-infused knives, transforming into vicious Ferals that eliminated the colonists. In their newly evolved state, the PAX could no longer control the Anomaly’s destructive energies, which were unleashed across Enoch.

Class Trees

Outriders expeditions marshal complex

Outriders featured four playable classes for players to use when embarking out into Enoch:

  • Devastator: a close-range tank meant to absorb more significant damage.
  • Pyromancer: a flame-wielding medium-range conjurer.
  • Trickster: a space-time bending hit-and-run fighter.
  • Technomancer: a long-range Anomaly tech-infused specialist.

Each class has three branching subclasses to apply points in - with up to 20 points awarded for leveling up through level 30. These subclasses allow players to create customizable builds that enhance different styles by using small and large nodes focusing on various primary engagements: Weapon Damage, Survival, or Anomaly Power. Small nodes grant buffs to character attributes, and large nodes provide more excellent percentage-based bonuses, some even affecting the entire skill set. While there aren't enough class points to fill out all three subclasses, points can be reset at any time.

  • Devastator
  • Vanquisher
  • Warden
  • Seismic Shifter
  • Pyromancer
  • Ash Breaker
  • Fire Storm
  • Tempest

  • Assassin
  • Harbinger
  • Reaver
  • Technomancer
  • Pestilence

PAX Skill Trees in Outriders: Worldslayer

outriders-worldslayer-announcement

Outriders: Worldslayer will expand upon these subclasses by introducing PAX skill trees that Outriders can unlock as they progress through the expansion, opening after level 30 - or beginning the campaign. Like the previous branches, PAX trees have two subclasses for each primary class. PAX points are awarded for progressing through significant events within the Worldslayer campaign, yet like the main class trees, all PAX points can be reset whenever the player desires, allowing them to experiment with different builds.

  • Devastator
  • Wrecker
  • Tectonic Shifter
  • Pyromancer
  • Gunblazer
  • Pyromaniac
  • Trickster
  • Spectre
  • Exploiter
  • Technomancer
  • Desolator
  • Overseer

There isn't a lot of information regarding the PAX trees and their subclass abilities, preserving an aura of mystery around the true power. Considering their deep connections to the Anomaly's destructive energies, it isn't hard for players to imagine the exotic, powerful builds that can be created as they explore more of the history and lore of the PAX. With the June 30 release of Worldslayer coming soon, players won't have to wait much longer before returning to the dark world of Enoch and decimating the monstrous forces that lurk across its surface. If pre-ordered before June 30, players are awarded 48-hour early access to the new expansion.

Outriders: Worldslayer expansion releases June 30, 2022, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
