Following up exactly one month after Outriders launched its first expansion, Worldslayer, a major update has made adjustments to virtually every aspect of the game. With rebalances for each class, an overall reduced grind for resources and gear, and numerous quality of life changes, Outriders is shaping up to be much improved compared to the game's state at launch.

Outriders is the latest game by veteran Polish developer People Can Fly, who created 2011's sleeper hit first-person shooter Bulletstorm and has also worked alongside Epic Games on iconic titles such as the Gears of War series and the incredibly popular free-to-play shooter Fortnite. The team's considerable experience with shooters over the years has led to an ambitious online title focused on build customization, crafting, and looting. Released over a year ago in April 2021, Outriders faced a somewhat poor reception due to bugs, balance issues, and a lack of content. People Can Fly has been intent on alleviating these problems with a series of comprehensive updates featuring hundreds of changes.

Players will be pleased to find that over 80% of the changes in this major Outriders update are buffs, as People Can Fly continues practicing its design philosophy of increasing the number of options in the game rather than simply punishing the most popular and powerful choices. Expedition rewards and resource gains have been increased alongside a decrease in crafting costs, leading to a more streamlined crafting experience. Numerous changes have been made to the game's classes, with Outriders' Devastators, Technomancers, Pyromancers, and Tricksters receiving cooldown reductions, damage increases, and increased buff durations.

The update also includes several new highly-requested features such as item locking. Item locking allows players to "lock" a piece of gear, preventing it from being dismantled. Players can then safely mass dismantle their inventories without fear of losing items they intend to use later. Quick Mark functionality has been improved to include Legendary, Apocalypse Epic, and Apocalypse Legendary rarities. A change to Worldslayer's Apocalypse Tiers has reduced the requirement to level up beyond Tier 20 by 10%, and the chance to receive Apocalypse variant gear will be increased further for each tier beyond Tier 11.

People Can Fly has clearly been putting in a lot of effort to improve Outriders, with player feedback and gathered gameplay data driving many of the changes in each update. Outriders' tendency to buff instead of nerf is a refreshing policy as one of the main frustrations for players in online games is having their playstyle invalidated by heavy-handed balance patches.

Outriders: Worldslayer is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
