Outriders hit the ground running with a lot of success during its demo and continued success since its official launch. Many gamers across the world have been exploring Outriders and unlocking the mysteries of the strange planet, Enoch. Outriders gives players a few things to keep in mind for optimal damage dealing. Status effects are just one layer of an Altered’s kit and can be used solo but shine when playing with other players.

Status effects in Outriders come in various types, with some having different effects depending on if the effect is applied to the player or an enemy. Learning each effect and what it does is key to optimizing damage output and decreasing the effects on the player. Using these status effects together with other players allows gamers to further min-max their builds for playing with friends or playing solo.

Outriders has eight status effects that can be broken up into three types: Crowd Control, Damage Over Time, and Debuffs. These status effects will be weaker against Elite enemies because of their status resistance. Some effects will act differently when applied to an enemy vs when they are applied to the player.

Status Effects Against Enemies

Breaking down the three types of status effects on enemies is rather straightforward as many effects of the same type act similarly to each other. Elite enemies can gain Effect Resistance so players should look for the resist symbol above an Elite’s health bar before trying to apply a status effect.

Crowd Control

Ash and Freeze are the two Crowd Control status effects and are good ways to stop a mob of enemies. Ash stops an enemy for 2.5 seconds while Freeze stops an enemy for 3.5 seconds, however, the duration of these effects will be reduced if they are used consecutively.

Damage Over Time

Bleed, Burn, and Toxic are the three damage over time effects found in Outriders. Each status effect does damage every 0.5 seconds. Bleed deals damage equal to 2.5% of the player’s Ability Power, lasting for 5 seconds. Burn deals damage equal to 3.7% of the player’s Ability Power, lasting for 6 seconds. Toxic will deal 3.5% of the player’s Ability Power, lasting for 6 seconds.

Debuffs

There are three debuffs in Outriders: Vulnerable, Weakness, and Slow. Vulnerable increases the damage dealt to an enemy by 25% and lasts for 10 seconds. Weakness is the opposite and reduces an enemy’s damage output by 30% for 6 seconds. Slow is the final status effect, it reduces the enemy movement and attack speed by 30-75% depending on the enemy’s status resistance. Slow does not have a base duration and is instead determined by the skills or mods used by the player.

Players can apply up to one of each of the status effects on an enemy and refresh its duration by reapplying the effect. Mods in Outriders can also interact with status effects such as creating an explosion when killing a frozen target, giving players more options when working with status effects.

Status Effects on the Player

Some mods throughout the game can grant Status Immunity, while the immunity effect is active, players will be immune to status effects. However, the Crowd Control and Damage over Time effects work a little differently when applied to the player. Gamers will want to understand how to react to each of these effects and not make the mistake of ignoring negative status effects.

Bleed will cause the player to receive damage over time while they are moving. This damage can be prevented if the player stands still for the duration of the effect. The Burn status can be removed by the tried-and-true stop, drop, and roll method. Toxic is removed when the player receives healing. Ash and Freeze can be applied to the player, but a simple melee will allow players to break free of either the Ash or Freeze status effects.

Outriders gives players fresh ways to approach a looter-shooter. With the useful mod system and a class point system, players are encouraged to make creative and unique character builds for the endgame. People Can Fly is proving that it is okay to lean into the power fantasy that many players may have been lacking in other games.

Outriders is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
