Outriders is one of the most trending video games as of late, for better or worse. The game may be plagued with awful issues, bugs, and server complications, but at its best, it is one of the more decent shooter games in recent memory. On top of that, the game also has a fantastic story.

However, not too many people may discover the extent of the game's overall story, even after finishing. A ton of information about the game's backstory and lore is hidden between the lines, and it's up to the players to discover these details. Here are a few things they might have missed.

10 Exactly Why Humans Had To Leave Earth

Outriders Servers Shut Down

People starting noticing in the year 2032. The Earth had been experiencing constant, devastating earthquakes, to the point that it is repositioning continents and submerging islands.

A lot of people believe that the activation of the underground nukes the year prior was responsible for the catastrophe. Others believe it was because of experimental technology that would allow humans to manipulate Earth's gravitational pull. Another theory points towards global warming. One thing all of these theories have in common is that humans themselves brought about the downfall of Earth. Perhaps they were right.

9 Flores' Proposal

The leaders of the world knew they had to do something to save the human race from the incessant calamities. Their solution was to build a floating city on the surface of the ocean. A certain scientist, though, believed otherwise.

Sybilla Mae Flores was a brilliant scientist and inventor. She was responsible for creating the GravDrive engine, a propulsion method that allowed an aircraft to travel at up to 15% of the speed of light. She believed the Earth would become uninhabitable, so she proposed a solution that would take mankind to the stars. Well, not every single one of them.

8 Why The Caravel Managed To Arrive First

It took some convincing, but world leaders finally agreed with Flores' plan. The ship that would house 500,000 passengers was named after its inventor, the S.M. Flores. Another ship, the Caravel, was also built. It was meant to reach the destination planet first, acting as an auxiliary scout. Unfortunately, an engine failure rendered the shuttle inoperational—or so they believed.

In reality, those left behind by the S.M. Flores managed to fix and even improve upon the Caravel's engines, which were already designed to be incredibly fast. This allowed the Caravel to not only catch up to the S.M. Flores, but also overtake it.

7 The ECA

The ECA, or the Enoch Colonization Authority, is humanity's governing body in the world of Outriders. During its infancy, it was headed by former heads of states and CEOs of multinational corporations. They oversaw the creation of both the S.M. Flores and the Caravel, as well as the foundation of the first Outriders.

During the game's events, the ECA is now headed by Shira Guttman, former engineer of the ECA and now the Grand Marshal of Rift Town. The ECA's original goal was to oversee the logistics and establish law and order once humanity landed in Enoch. Now, the ECA is busy fighting a war against the Insurgents.

6 The Purpose Of The Outriders

The Outriders were formed to act as humanity's vanguard. They were going to be the first humans to set foot on the race's new home. The Outriders consisted of the best of humanity: scientists, specialists, engineers with military expertise. Many saw them as heroes.

However, when the Caravel exploded, it took all 8,000 Outriders with it. All hope seemed lost, until the ECA hired new sets of Outriders consisting of mercenaries and guns for hire. The optimism towards this new group was minuscule, but they were all that humanity had.

5 Bruno Nyberg's Decision

Bruno Nyberg was the first president of the ECA. He became a politician at a very young age, during a time when everyone was worried about the survival of the human race. He oversaw the construction of the S.M. Flores, as well as its successful voyage to Enoch.

Nyberg's rule in humanity's newfound home was initially untroubled, and his people loved and trusted him. However, the first Anomaly storm struck the First City, devastating the first 100,000 humans to set foot in it. Around this time, there were still 400,000 humans sleeping in their cryopods in orbit. If left asleep, these humans would be left to die. Otherwise, they would land on a planet that wasn't ready for their arrival. Nyberg ultimately went with the latter decision.

4 The Anomaly And The Altered

The Anomaly is a constant phenomenon on the planet Enoch. Though its origins and nature were originally unknown to humans, it is later discovered that it was caused by the efforts of the planet's natives to combat the first humans who arrived there.

Yet, it is still a mystery to everyone as to how the Anomaly can altering a human's DNA, giving them extraordinary powers. However, this only affects about 0.1% of those who have had the misfortune of being struck by the Anomaly. The abilities come at random as well. Most Altereds gain immortality, while some gain the ability to have acidic urine.

3 The Deserters And The "First Altered"

Outriders Ending

When the Anomaly struck the First City, many of those whom it hit immediately perished, except for the lucky few who gained extraordinary abilities as a result. The First Altered ended up leading the Insurgents. With his new abilities, he killed most of ECA's top brass, including President Bruno Nyberg.

During this attack, the First Altered faced another Altered character Seth. Seth ended up winning this battle, allowing the ECA to survive and driving the Insurgents back.

2 The Real First Altered

Most of the inhabitants of Enoch believe that the first Altered was the leader of the Insurgents. In actuality, the first Altered actually predates the arrival of the S.M. Flores.

The first Altered was actually the second in command of Monroy's army, the first set of humans who set foot on Enoch using the Caravel. Known only as the Wanderer, this figure gained his abilities after deserting Monroy's army in guilt. While fleeing, the Wanderer was struck by the Anomaly. This gave him abilities, making him the actual first Altered.

1 The Cultists

While most fear the Anomaly, and rightfully so, there are those who worship it. These individuals are known as "The Cultists." Salem Koresh is their leader, a guru who also happens to be an Altered.

Those who follow Salem Koresh see him as a god and savior. Salem is known to be very charismatic and manipulative. Coupled with his new abilities and the desperate state of the world, it almost makes sense that a group such as this would exist in the world of Outriders.
