One of the first characters that players will meet in Outriders is Tanner, the leader of the Outriders sent to Enoch. Tanner is some kind of strange space cowboy, but many players fell in love with him immediately. Aside from his southern accent, one of his most recognizable features is his classic cowboy hat, and there's actually a way to obtain it in the game. Tanner's Hat is a legendary armor piece that provides players with superior defense and a unique tier 3 mod, so it's worth tracking down. Unfortunately, there's been some misinformation floating around about how to get it.
Like many looter-shooters, Outriders classifies its gear with a rarity system. White items are Common and mostly useless, while green items are considered Unusual and tend to be useful early on in the game. Blue items are Rare and have one mod on them, while purple items are Epic and come with two mods. The highest rarity is gold, Legendary weapons that have unique tier 3 mods.
Outriders - How to Get Tanner's Hat
While some have claimed that there is a guaranteed way to get Tanner's Hat as a Legendary armor piece, this is not true. Tanner's Hat is simply in the same pool as every other Legendary armor piece in the game, meaning players will need to farm for it the same way they would anything else. Outriders patched out the Legendary farming exploit recently, but the best way to get this gear is still from repeating the Hunt quests. Complete all 10 (with the final one being on the highest World Tier available) and players are guaranteed a Legendary reward. Keep in mind that it may not be Tanner's Hat, however.
Outriders - What Does Tanner's Hat Do?
For those lucky enough to get their hands on Tanner's Hat, its tier 3 mod is Stare Into The Barrel. With this mod equipped, players will gain a massive boost to their firepower for each enemy that is within close range. This bonus can stack up to five times, making it a great option for both the Trickster and Devastator classes as they prefer to be in the thick of things. The other mod on the hat is randomized.
While this may be discouraging to some, getting a legendary reward from completing all ten hunts doesn't take too terribly long. Players can expedite the process of Legendary farming by completing most of the hunts on World Tier 1 and then switching to their highest available World Tier before completing the final one.
