Outriders, the latest game from Bulletstorm co-developers People Can Fly, is scheduled to be released on April 1. A demo for Outriders launched on February 25, and some gamers have already determined how to farm legendary equipment.

In the demo, players are introduced to the planet of Enoch, which they can explore alone or with up to two others - and Outriders even supports crossplay between platforms. Characters who carry legendary gear will certainly find it easier to survive the hostile planet, so it’s advantageous for players to learn how to increase their chances at looting the best hardware.

Players aren’t required to preorder the complete game in order to access the free demo, and can play as much as they’d like until the full game releases. Players have access to the first chapter of the game in its entirety, including the main storyline, all side quests, and even the first boss. Playing through this chapter with each of Outriders’ four character classes averages to approximately 12 hours of playtime in total. Additionally, because a player’s progress can transfer to the full game, any loot farmed in the demo will be available if the player chooses to purchase it.

It may not be readily apparent that Outriders players can return to a mission to farm legendaries, because when replaying a mission, fans will find that the loot box is already open. Instead, players must open the main menu and select “Return to Lobby.”

In the lobby, players can see the World Tier that they are playing in and, while it’s always going to be rare to find legendary gear, a player’s chances are better in the higher-tier worlds. Once players have chosen a tier (the demo only goes up to Tier 5), they must choose “Select Story Point.” It’s in this menu that players can pick, and return to, a previous part of the story.

Returning to an earlier section only resets that section, and nothing else. Players retain all of the loot and gear they’ve already collected, and none of their current progress is affected. This means that players can complete a part of the story, return to the lobby, then replay that portion to open the loot box again. At this point, the player is at the mercy of probability, but the more they use this method, the more likely they are to find the best gear, like the legendary Outriders sets that were revealed during Armor Week.

Outriders releases April 1 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
