Crafting in Outriders can be a daunting process. Offering a decent number of resources that players will acquire throughout play, understanding precisely how each one works and what it's used for is a great first step for any new Outrider.
While players will first need to unlock crafting in Outriders before using the acquired materials, the storing of crafting materials (or currencies) begins immediately in the title, after the prologue. Understanding which material holds what possibilities are important for new Outriders looking to make a maximum impact during the exploration of Enoch.
Before players begin modifying every weapon possible, it's pertinent to outline what the crafting materials are, and how they are used. There are multiple crafting currencies: scraps, leather, iron, shards, and titanium. Scraps can be gained from completing missions and selling equipment to vendors found sporadically around maps.
Leather is gained from killing creatures, such as Analogous Spiders, Perforos, and other monstrosities that aren't humanoids. Ingots can be mined from specific spots within maps, with multiple locations if Outriders take time to explore. Leather, ingots, and shards can all be gained from dismantling weapons (ingots) and armor (leather) that won't be used, along with chests found in the world. Players can always use the Outriders Story Point system to re-enter old areas for more loot.
Shards in Outriders hold multiple tendencies, however, and they are used to amplify intrinsic attributes found on gear, such as Crit Damage or Armor Pierce. Deconstructing these pieces result in attributional shards being added to a character's bank, which can then be used to raise the traits on other weapons through crafting for that specific characteristic. For example, a weapon with a Crit Damage attribute will result in Crit Damage shards being dropped when the weapon is dismantled, which can then be used only to increase Crit Damage attributes in other weapons.
Titanium in Outriders is the hardest resource to acquire, dropping only from elite enemies and dismantling epic and legendary items in Outriders. When opting to use titanium in high-tier crafting, bear in mind that it's a valuable resource. Usage should be on the highest rolls possible to ensure a long shelf-life of the weapon. Disassembling epic and legendary-tier weapons results in a small quantity of titanium, roughly 10% of the investment.
Finally, mods are a unique resource of their own. Mods are gained (or banked) by dismantling either armor or weapons with the mod. Once dismantled, the mod will remain in the player's inventory to use freely, with a generally low cost. Matching mods with desired play styles is crucial for making progress at a consistent rate, so players should experiment with newly found mods to see if they can be included to introduce new avenues of approach. Note that mods do not transfer between characters in Outriders, but players can transfer items to other characters using the Stash box to be dismantled by alts.
As is the tendency with the People Can Fly title, Outriders users shouldn't be hesitant to experiment with a wide array of materials and tools offered. The "mix-maxing" of the game can take away some of the joys of the title. If gamers find themselves hesitant to craft, pull the trigger: you can always get more.
