While many RPG fans can spend a long time deciding on the look of their avatar in the game, having the option to alter the look of a playable character after the fact is a boon that most players will take advantage of. After creating the initial look of a character in Outriders, players can alter their hair, makeup, and more after the game has already begun.

Character Creation in Outriders

Outriders is one of the most anticipated games of April 2021, and not just for its gameplay. Players are excited to take their customized character for a spin around the desolate future on a hostile planet. The character creation is limited when compared to some games, but players can choose their gender, a look from several preset heads and faces, skin color, and eye color. They can also add features like piercings, makeup, and scars or markings.

But if a player isn't happy with their initial character design, or they just want a change of hair style, they can head back to the base to change things up and make their character the most fashionable Outrider in the dangerous world of Enoch.

Where to Go

In order to change up their appearance, players will need to head to the base of operations. This area will not be available to players until after they have completed the prologue; players will know that the prologue is complete when most of the initial story has been explained with the many cutscenes in Outriders' early hours. Players will also have a little more room to move around; the prologue is pretty linear, but the world will open up some once this first section is complete.

Once in the base, players will need to head to the southeastern-most part of Rift Town in Outriders. There, an icon will appear that looks like scissors inside of a hangar; look for a yellow hammock inside this area. Players will be able to interact with it as a vendor, and it will give them the option to update their look.

What Can't be Changed?

While players can update their hair, eye color, skin color, and some facial features, there are two things that cannot be changed after the fact: gender and class. Once players choose one of the four classes available in Outriders or one of the two gender selections, they are stuck with those choices for the reminder of their game. Without starting over, there does not appear to be a way to change either of these.

Outriders is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
