Outriders is one of the latest action co-op RPGs that you can play right now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, XSX/S, and PC. It was developed by People Can Fly and its gameplay is immensely fun and satisfying. The players control a character that can carry any type of guns with finesse – oh, and they have superpowers as well. That's an ultimate sell right there.

However, as fun as the premise is, the game is far from perfect. There are a ton of annoying details that most players will notice, especially by the end. Here are a few things that stop the game from being the best version of itself.

10 The Massive Difficulty Spike

Outriders, for all intents and purposes, is not a very difficult game. It's mostly fair, even in the highest World Tier setting. However, at a certain point during the main campaign, some enemies will suddenly spike up in difficulty. Some players find this incredibly surprising and frustrating.

At one point, the enemies are familiar. Then, in the next section, an enemy is suddenly a bullet sponge that can hit like a truck. This happens a lot in Outriders, especially around the later sections.

9 A Co-op Game That Can't Co-op

Outriders Three Player Coop

Outriders is a game that prides itself on being a co-op game. However, due to the problems with the game's servers, it is incredibly difficult to match with other people. The crossplay matchmaking has been disabled because of this.

A lot of the players who managed to finish the game did so doing solo. While there is nothing wrong with this, a smoother co-op system would have made this game so much better, and allowed players to experience the game to its full potential.

8 Some Higher Level Abilities Are Worse Than Early Level Abilities

One of the most fun things about the gameplay mechanic is the player's abilities. It makes the players feel strong and overpowered. In the game, some consider those who are Altered to be gods, and the game knows how to make its players feel that way.

This is why earning new abilities is insanely fun. However, the placement for each ability can sometimes be disorienting. It's an awful feeling earning a new ability after grinding in the game, only to find that it's worse than the abilities the player received at a lower level.

7 The Cover System Is Practically Useless

The cover system is a mechanic used in almost single shooter game, and Outriders is no different. However, it's almost as if the cover system was only included as a red herring, since most players find it nearly useless in combat.

The enemies always know how to flush the player out of hiding. A lot of the "covers" in the game can also be easily broken. This is ironic, considering how much effort the developers placed into making each combat area so artificially simulated for a cover system gameplay.

6 Dodge Tracking

While the game isn't particularly difficult, it can be extremely annoying how on-point the enemies are when shooting at the players. During certain scenarios, it's almost as if dodging is useless altogether. The enemy will know exactly where the player will land, and will hit them then and there.

This goes for both gun-wielding enemies and monsters. Most of the time, they will track the player's dodges, which is infuriating as it negates the player's agency to skillfully move away.

5 The Snipers

In addition to how enemies can seemingly track the player's dodges, the snipers in Outriders also seem to be the most gifted of their kind in gaming, all crammed into one game as throwaway enemies.

The snipers in the game are highly accurate in their shots. The moment they spot the players, it's a 99% guarantee that the player is hit. Even though their shots aren't too significant in damage, they can knock back the player which will give the melee enemies the opportunity to close in.

4 The Disappearing HUD Glitch

A rare, yet very real nuisance, the game's HUD will disappear completely, for no apparent reason whatsoever. The player can simply fix this issue by going to the lobby and signing in again, but it's an issue nonetheless.

While this is an annoying glitch that can happen to all players, it's nothing a few updates won't fix. The developers are most likely aware of this issue by now, and are hopefully working on a fix for it.

3 Enemies Can Trap You

Enemies in the game can easily trap the player because of how many of them can be in one given moment, especially for the creature types. On several occasions, this swarm of enemies can trap players in one position, preventing them from rolling out, and staggering them until they run out of health.

Players that have the ability to teleport away can easily get out of this sticky situation. But if the ability is still cooling down, this means a guaranteed death for the player.

2 Getting Duplicate Legendaries

There are a ton of legendary weapons and armor sets in this game to help the players feel even more powerful than they already are. Most of these legendary weapons are dropped by high-level enemies and bosses, while some of them are found in well-hidden chests.

It's great that a lot of these legendary items can be dropped by enemies. However, it's also frustrating when the legendary items within these hard-to-obtain chests are just duplicates.

1 The "Smoothing"

One of the most recurring criticisms the game got during its demo was the shaky camera during the cutscenes. A lot of people found it pointless and reeling. Thankfully, the game listened and added a "camera smoothing" slider in the game's settings.

However, the smoothing option brings forth a different problem. It makes some cutscenes laggy and glitchy. This will most likely be fixed in future updates, but as of the moment, some cutscenes are just very difficult to watch because of this.
