With Red Barrels Studio's Outlast 2's release date scheduled for Tuesday of next week, the video game developer has decided to scare some additional excitement into fans of the survival-horror series ahead of the sequel going live by putting out the title's official launch trailer. As one would expect, the footage offers little in the way of actual gameplay, as it instead opts to set the creepy tone of the title with a bunch of nightmarish scenarios and unsettling atmospherics.

As seen below in the launch trailer for the forthcoming survival-horror game, fans should expect plenty of tense situations, upsetting and grotesque imagery, and frightening moments involving the protagonist Blake Langermann attempting to flee for his life from crazed villagers and supernatural phenomena. Not to mention, if the launch trailer is any indication of the visual quality of Outlast 2, the sequel is definitely primed to outdo its predecessor graphically, as the lighting, shadows, environments, and character models seem to have been upped a grade.

Since the only actual gameplay shown in the launch trailer for Outlast 2 appears to be scenes in which Langermann is running for safety, those who wish to get a better feel for the title's overarching story and its other mechanics would do well to delve into additional bits of recordings that have been used to promote the survival-horror game. As it happens, a recently released gameplay video offers 10 minutes of footage showing off the release's exploration elements, mechanics, and settings.

Of course, when watching Outlast 2's launch trailer and gameplay doesn't suffice, Red Barrels Studio has also provided a way for fans to take a hands-on approach to experiencing what the game has to offer. As it happens, several months ago, the developer decided to put out an official demo to show off a portion of what the survival-horror title will deliver upon its release next week.

Without a doubt, other than Capcom's Resident Evil 7, there has been a dearth of truly terrifying games to have dropped this year, but Outlast 2 definitely stands a chance at being a contender for one of the scariest releases of 2017. Hopefully, not only will the game deliver when it comes to horror, but also will play well overall, for beyond its genre classification, it's considered by many to be one of the most highly anticipated video games of 2017.

Outlast 2 is set to release on April 25, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
