Releasing yesterday on Nintendo Switch, owners of the handheld console have been flocking to The Outer Worlds in hopes of finally getting the chance to play Obsidian's recent intergalactic RPG. The title - which joins the likes of The Witcher 3, DOOM, and Alien: Isolation as the next major modern generation release to make a jump to the Nintendo Switch - is currently sitting with fairly lukewarm responses, with a 71 on Metacritic.

However, it seems fans who decided to pick up the Switch port of the 2019 smash hit are beginning to notice that it's far from as polished as fans were hoping, with Twitter beginning to share a lot of damning opinions about the handheld adaptation. With major visuals flaws and technical glitches, it seems The Outer WorldsSwitch release has gone down like a lead balloon, with players unanimously agreeing that the title didn't make its big Nintendo debut very gracefully.

It seems some of the biggest issues in the game are the visual sacrifices that needed to be made to get the title onto a console with very different hardware specifications. A lot of the game's textures have been accused of being blurry, with the worlds lacking sharpness and color, while character and weapon models look significantly rougher, lacking nearly all detail. Seeing as the original Outer Worlds had an extremely vibrant color scheme and stylized world, it's clear Switch owners aren't getting the same level of immaculate detail. Many have also cited low frame rates as another prevailing issue with the port.

Twitter users have, in turn, been very vocal on the game's issues, with one claiming "If The Witcher 3 can run on this little guy in a completely playable state, there is no excuse for Switch ports to look as bad as The Outer Worlds does." Another jokingly stated "Outer Worlds (Switch) screenshots be floating around like it was just released on the N64," while a third commented "Just because you can port it to the Switch doesn't mean you should...Looking at you The Outer Worlds." Clearly the game has rubbed fans up the wrong way, many of which were excited after waiting so long for Obsidian to port the game to the Switch.

On the other hand, some have made the point that The Outer Worlds is a phenomenally fun game regardless of its visual fidelity and that the Switch port can get away with it for the pure quality of the experience. Hopefully, merely getting to play Obsidian's most recent work is a good enough incentive to opt into grabbing a copy of the Switch title.

The Outer Worlds is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
