Since Fortnite developer Epic Games launched the Epic Games Store last year, it has quickly snapped up several high-profile games. Metro Exodus, Phoenix Point, Telltale's The Walking: The Final Season, and several Ubisoft games are all exclusive to the platform and today, the list of major games on the Epic Games Store grew a little longer.

Epic Games confirmed that The Outer Worlds, the upcoming sci-fi RPG from Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment, will be on its store at launch. It will also be available on Windows Store at launch. It will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store and Windows Store until 12 months after release.

Some other games confirmed as Epic Games Store exclusives are Afterparty from Oxenfree developer Night School Studios, Dauntless from Phoenix Labs, and Control from Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, which shares a publisher with The Outer Worlds (Take-Two's Private Division), will be an exclusive too.

According to the response on social media, many people are unhappy about the decision not to offer The Outer Worlds on Steam. When Metro Exodus was announced as an Epic Games Store exclusive, fans were upset that they would have to move over to a new storefront to play the game.

Similar arguments are being made by The Outer Worlds fans too. Some are also raising the issue of Epic Games Store account security, as there are doubts about how Epic secures and uses user data.

However, Private Division is unlikely to reverse course on this. Today, it was also revealed that Metro Exodus sold 2.5 times better on Epic Games Store at launch than its predecessor, Metro: Last Light, sold on Steam. The Outer Worlds is a new IP, but Private Division and Obsidian Entertainment will probably be very happy if its game can sell as well as Metro Exodus has.

It's not just raw sales, though; Private Division and Obsidian Entertainment also stand to benefit from the more favorable revenue split offered by the Epic Games Store. Companies can take 88% of the revenue generated from a sale of their game on the Epic Games Store in comparison to the 70% that they get from each game sale on Steam.

The Outer Worlds is scheduled for release at some point in 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
