The Outer Worlds by Obsidian Entertainment has been on sale for a few months now. And in that time, The Outer Worlds has hit an astounding sales record: 2 million units sold.

The Outer Worlds, which was made by the devs famous for Fallout: New Vegas, was released on October 25th, 2020. It's an action-RPG in the style of Fallout and Mass Effect; the object of the game revolves a lot around the personalities of the characters (and romancing them as well). It was warmly received by fans in spite of a few bugs that has to be fixed with update 1.2, with a strong story line and a lot of interesting personalities.

In the 15 weeks that The Outer Worlds has been out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, it has moved more than 2 million copies. Also during this time, it was available for free to Xbox Game Pass users, so it has even more than 2 million copies out there. These numbers were shared in an earnings call with Take-Two, the parent publisher of the game.

Things are looking up for The Outer Worlds, in spite of the fact that the Switch version has been delayed due to the Corona Virus in China. Obsidian will be releasing DLC soon for the game, and The Outer Worlds was called an "enduring franchise" by Microsoft's Matt Booty, meaning that the game will most likely spawn several sequels. Players that loved the first one may get to see a continuation of the world in the upcoming years just like with Fallout.

Players can really see Obsidian's long history of making RPGs in The Outer Worlds. There is a lot of detail, world-building, and love put into the planets of The Outer Worlds, and the entertaining characters are deeply enticing. So it's not surprise that the game has sold as well as it has.

The 2 million mark is a great milestone for a fantastic company, and that means fans of RPGs will have much more to look forward to from Obsidian. And with the upcoming release for the Switch will drive those numbers even higher, once the delays due to the Corona virus are over with and players have a Switch release date.

The Outer Worlds is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and will soon be available for Nintendo Switch.
