The Xbox Games Showcase debuted earlier today, bringing a number of huge reveals along with it. Halo Infinite got a lengthy gameplay reveal - complete with its new, semi-open world focus - while State of Decay 3 got a surprise announcement, and a new Fable was revealed to unanimous praise.

Of course, the broadcast was also a big moment for another Xbox-owned studio, with Obsidian revealing the first of its long-awaited story DLCs for The Outer Worlds. Titled Peril on Gorgonthe additional content received a brand new trailer alongside a firm release date, confirming that the newest adventure in the The Outer Worlds' universe will be available on September 9 this year.

The trailer itself is, in classic Outer Worlds fashion, incredibly tongue-in-cheek, framed as if advertising a cheesy B-movie. Allegedly offering players the opportunity to solve "the biggest mystery in the galaxy," it seems the crew of the Unreliable will travel to the Gorgon Asteroid, a brand new area that houses an abandoned research facility filled with new quests to embark upon. Of course, this being The Outer Worldsit seems there will be an assortment of entertaining new characters to meet, morally-challenging decisions to make, and tons of inventive new weapons to wield.

Although Obsidian didn't mention how long players could expect to spend in Peril on Gorgon, it seems as though the story will boast some striking new open world sections to explore as well. Throughout the trailer, there's seems to be a diverse mix of large exterior sections, expansive factories, and even what looks to be some extensive, corporate lobbies. Hopefully, players will get to explore some major new areas of The Outer Worlds' universe without being funneled too heavily down a linear story route. Overall, it looks like more of the supremely fun gameplay that made The Outer Worlds such a joy to explore last year, so fans should definitely mark September 9 on their calendars.

Alongside Peril on Gorgon, Obsidian took the time to discuss a number of its biggest projects during the Xbox Showcase. Grounded, the company's Honey, I Shrunk the Kids inspired survival game, got a firm release date of July 28, while the team also announced its next major RPG following The Outer Worlds. Known as Avowedthe title will see the studio delve into the fantasy genre, with the concept trailer teasing magic spells, skeleton warriors, and much more. Evidently, the company is fast becoming one of the biggest assets to Microsoft's first-party lineup.

The Outer Worlds: Peril On Gorgon will be avaliable for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on September 9.
