Since being acquired by Microsoft, Obsidian Entertainment has been incredibly busy with new content and games. In addition to the Fallout-inspired FPS, The Outer Worlds, Obsidian announced the fantasy RPG Avowed last year, and continues to add content to the survival title Grounded. For E3 2021, Obsidian was once again incredibly busy with new content, releasing a new update for Grounded adding many community focused enhancements and a Brood Mother encounter.

Much to the surprise of many fans, The Outer Worlds was again in the spotlight thanks to the announcement of a sequel. Not much was shown off as the trailer itself indicates that the game is early in development, choosing to show many tropes for creating hype from a booming soundtrack, lens flares, slow motion action, and sweeping landscape shots. Even if the trailer isn't too detailed, Obsidian is releasing new information from its social media pages.

According to a new Twitter post from the official The Outer Worlds account, players got a brief indication of what to expect with the upcoming title. As the Tweet mentioned, players will be traveling to a completely new star system for this sequel, moving the series away from the Halcyon colony. In addition, it appears that fan favorite companion characters like Parvati from the first game won't be returning as the Tweet goes on to mention that players can expect to see a new crew as well.

However, for those players worried that too much is changing, Obsidian ends the Tweet with a promise that it'll still be the "Same Outer Worlds" that fans have come to know. While nothing more is mentioned, it's safe to say that the sequel will contain the same tone and humor, as well as RPG questing, exploration, and dialogue decisions. Better yet, the title will be coming back to Game Pass on both the console and PC versions, so subscribers can hop in on day one.

Unfortunately for fans, the other big Obsidian game, Avowed, was only briefly mentioned by Xbox Head Phil Spencer at the conclusion of the show. It's expected that Avowed will likely launch before The Outer Worlds 2, with the latter clearly being in early pre-production while the former has at least a year of development completed after its announcement a year ago. Still, Obsidian has a wide variety of content coming in the future, which should make Xbox and PC players quite happy.

The Outer Worlds 2 is in development.
