THQ Nordic gave its very own showcase today, revealing some of the major new games the company has in the pipeline, including Outcast 2 among a few others. A follow-up to the original Outcast, a classic 90s game, the game will bring back Cutter Slade in an adventure that picks up right where the last game left off. If the first two trailers are any indication, it’ll be a visually impressive experience too.

The announcement trailer kicks off with a look at the world of Adelpha, showing some of the culture of the planet’s inhabitants and giving fans a look at the modern take on Cutter Slade, an iconic video game protagonist in his own right. While the announcement trailer is sparse on details, Game Rant got the chance to learn a bit more about the game during an early press screening for the trailer.

Cutter has been frozen in a probe for 20 years now, after falsely assuming that he would wake up back on Earth. In that time, Adelpha has been taken over by robots, though the story won’t quite be as black and white as that makes it seem, according to the representatives for the game. As far as the story goes, players will spend their time trying to figure out what happened to the Talan women and children, who were absent from the first game.

In addition to the announcement trailer, THQ Nordic revealed a gameplay trailer that dives into the meat and potatoes of the experience. Fans mostly get a look at the in-game environments for the bulk of the trailer, though it does also show the flashy combat that will be featured towards the end.

The game will emphasize non-linear storytelling and an open world, elements that the first game was highly regarded for, especially for its era. A jetpack will play a central role in navigating Adelpha. There’s also an updated combat system that features modular weapons. It’s too early to tell, but there are some promising elements being shown off

Outcast 2 still doesn’t have a release date yet, though, so it might be a while before fans get their hands on it. However, it’s the original was critically acclaimed, even if the franchise has largely faded from memory. There’s still a dedicated community behind it though, so Outcast 2 will at least have something of an audience when it launches. It’ll likely pick up a few new fans along the way, too.

Outcast 2 is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
