It is a good day for the team behind Everything Everywhere All at Once. The film leads with 11 nominations for the 95th annual Academy Awards. The sci-fi adventure secured its place alongside other big names from the year, including Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water.

With two of the highest-grossing films of the year, Avatar: The Way of Water and Top Gun: Maverick, in the running, fans are excited to see which film will take the title. Everything Everywhere All at Once dominated the nominations for most of the big categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress in a leading role for Michelle Yeoh, Best Supporting Actress for both Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu, Best Supporting actor for Ke Huy Quan, and Best Original Screenplay, among others. Avatar The Way Of Water Top Gun Maverick

Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water have been in a bit of a battle since the latter film was released. For the longest time, Tom Cruise's return as the courageous pilot Maverick ruled the box office in 2022. However, Avatar: The Way of Water dethroned the film to become the highest-grossing film of 2022 just as the year ended. Reports show that Avatar 2 earned over $2 billion worldwide, compared to Top Gun: Maverick's $1.49 billion since its May 2022 release. Now, the films will battle for the best picture throne.

Apart from these three commercially-successful films, the list includes seven other titles. These include All Quiet on the Western Front and The Banshees of Inisherin, which had nine nominations each. Furthermore, Steven Spielberg's The Fabelmans also made it to the list and had seven total nominations. The Best Picture list included Elvis, Tar, Triangle of Sadness, and Women Talking.

The 2023 Oscars will air on Sunday, March 12, on ABC.
