Several big names are in the running for the acting awards at this year's Oscars, including some actors who were a part of the more commercially-successful projects of the year 2022. There are four categories where actors can be honoured for their performances: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Actor in a supporting role, and Best Actress in a supporting role.

In less than two months, the Oscars will take place in Hollywood's iconic Dolby Theatre, with award-winning talk show host Jimmy Kimmel returning to host the 95th Academy Awards. It will be revealed soon who gets the acting accolades for their performance in 2022. Some actors in the running are Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, Angela Bassett, Colin Farrell, and Brendan Fraser, among others.

After the film Everything Everywhere All at Once was released, Yeoh received praise for her performance from fans and critics. She has now become the first woman who identifies as Asian to be nominated in the Best Actress category. It took 95 years for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to recognize the work done by an Asian actress, something that fans are talking about today. Apart from Yeoh, other actors in the running include Cate Blanchett for Tar, Ana de Armas for Blonde, Andrea Riseborough for To Leslie, and Michelle Williams for The Fabelmans.

Another big film released in 2022 was Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Bassett's performance as Queen Ramonda was considered the best in the movie by many critics and fans. The Academy has recognized her work, as she won the nomination for Best Actress in a supporting role. However, she has tough competition in the category, as the other nominated actors include Hong Chau for The Whale, Kerry Condon for The Banshees of Inisherin, and Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu from Everything Everywhere All at Once.

In all this, the Best Actor category cannot be ignored. One performance that fans talked about long after the film was released was Fraser's in The Whale. He has landed a nomination for his work and competes against Austin Butler for Elvis, Farrell for The Banshees of Inisherin, Paul Mescal for Aftersun, and Bill Nighy for Living.

Best Supporting Actor nominees include Brendan Gleeson for The Banshees of Inisherin, Brian Tyree Henry for Causeway, Judd Hirsch for The Fabelmans, Barry Keoghan for The Banshees of Inisherin, and Ke Huy Quan for Everything Everywhere All at Once.

The 2023 Oscars will air on Sunday, March 12, on ABC.
