Dynamic backgrounds have often been an entertaining way of showing off the menus of a game console or PC. Like the PS4 did with a retro PS1 dynamic background, playing to past releases can add a bit of nostalgia to a newer console. During a recent podcast, it was revealed that the Xbox Series X/S might have a classic Xbox dynamic background on the way.

This all occurred during the Xbox Podcast featuring Larry Hryb, AKA Major Nelson, the director of programming for Xbox. While Hryb was pointing out games that he was still playing and expecting to play in the near future, the background appeared to be different than any other on the system at this time and had a strong resemblance to the opening animation and menu grids from the original Xbox.

Fans of the original Xbox might remember the green blob that would be manipulated by different machinery before becoming the Xbox logo, and that appears to be the case on Hryb's console. Surrounding the blob on the outside are some grid-like honeycombs reminiscent of the grids around the original Xbox menu system.

This is a welcome sight for many players looking for a retro feel and looking to expand the number of dynamic themes available on the Xbox Series X/S. As of right now, there are 7 available dynamic themes, and adding more like this would certainly give the menu area an all-around custom feel. For players that remember the original Xbox, this theme would have their names written all over it.

Dynamic themes are fairly new to the system, so catching a glimpse during a filmed podcast is special. The fact that the theme exists on the Director of Programming for Xbox Live's console and was on display for Xbox fans everywhere is a huge signal of such developments. Larry Hryb has often been a popular live personality with the company, joining with the Xbox division in 2003 and becoming a normal face for viewers since the beginning of the Xbox 360 with assorted Xbox Live events.

A confirmation has not been received about whether the dynamic theme will make it to all players, but with word getting out, fans are excited for the prospect of a nice piece of nostalgia on the latest consoles. Players will have to wait, and in the meantime, utilize the available dynamic themes on the Xbox Series X/S.
