Fans are steadily learning more and more about the next console generation, and that includes the games that will be released for it. From Godfall to The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, new games are being confirmed for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and if the latest rumor is any indication, players may soon be able to add a sequel to Ready At Dawn’s steampunk third-person shooter The Order 1886 to that list.

Chances are most gamers have moved on from the 2015 PS4 exclusive about immortal Knights of the Round Table fighting werewolves in an alternate history 19th century England. The Order 1886 largely failed to impress players when it first released, due to issues like a short length and bland gameplay that often took a backseat to cutscenes and quick-time events.

Despite this, it’s possible fans may be getting a multiplatform sequel, according to NeoGAF user OsirisBlack. In a thread focused on the PS5 and XSX, they claim to have been shown a trailer for a currently-unannounced game, and while they don’t mention it by name, many feel their description of the trailer matches the vibe of The Order. In it, a man armed with a gun and a shoulder-mounted light device surveys a dimly-lit room before coming across a yellow-eyed and four-armed monster. He manages to flee and barricade himself behind a door, and the trailer ends with the monster taunting him from the other side, saying, “I have found you.”

OsirisBlack says that most of the trailer was actual gameplay instead of pre-rendered cutscenes, with real-time character models, lighting, and physics that they describe as being “on another level” and “the best looking [of] anything that I have ever seen.” This harkens back to one of the few well-received aspects of The Order 1886: some of the most highly-detailed world/ character designs and visuals of any game this generation. Given what Ready At Dawn was able to accomplish with PS4-grade technology five years ago, it stands to reason that a sequel would set a similar high standard with next-gen technology.

This leak comes at an interesting time, just a week after Ready At Dawn revealed that it’s looking for developers to help create a new, boundary-pushing AAA game. Also worth noting is that, as GamesRadar points out, OsirisBlack has leaked accurate information in the past, revealing key details about the PS4 Pro months before it launched. This lends some credence to the possibility of a sequel to The Order 1886 being in the works, though only time will tell if there’s anything to them.

The Order 1886 may have been far from critically acclaimed back when it first came out, but many believed it had a solid foundation that could be improved upon with a sequel or two. Ready At Dawn has said before that The Order has a future as a franchise, so it’ll be interesting to see if that future is finally starting to materialize.

The Order 1886 is available for PS4.
