Twitter users may have noticed that Optimus Prime has been trending and it seems to have stemmed from an unlikely comparison. While self-isolation seems to have spawned plenty of internet oddities, the fiery debate about Captain America and Optimus Prime is perhaps one of the most absurd. As it turns out, Optimus Prime has an incredible amount of fans and when his speeches were drawn into question, many Twitter users jumped to his defense.

Optimus Prime has been part of the Transformers series since its beginnings as a set of toys in 1984. Since then there have been Transformers games, books, and films which have further established Optimus Prime's character and status as a leader of the Cybertronian sect of a mechanical alien race. During the development of the franchise, Optimus Prime has given courageous speeches to the Cybertrons when they have faced their enemies the Decepticons and it seems these speeches have affected the fanbase as well.

The debate seems to have been sparked by an innocent question about who gave the better speeches Optimus Prime or Captain America. The tweet received a huge response with comical memes and people making an argument for their preferred character. Somewhat surprisingly it seems that the best speeches belong to Optimus Prime and many users posted examples of his impressive public speaking abilities. The Transformers series has done some incredible things, but defeating Captain America in popular opinion may be amongst the most impressive achievements.

The Transformers franchise has an incredible legacy in all its forms, and the original toys are worth a substantial amount to many people. While Captain America is enjoyed by many, it seems that the Transformers series is still in the hearts of its fans. With that in mind, there may be hope for more films in the hugely commercial successful series, at least that is what the plans of the production company of the franchise, Paramount, suggests.

Transformers: Beast Wars may well be coming to cinemas and judging by the fan reaction to this Twitter debate, it seems that plenty of people would welcome the return of Optimus Prime. Whether the film series can compete with the success of recent Marvel films remains to be seen, what is clear is that fans want to hear more rousing speeches from Optimus Prime.
