2K Games has a number of projects in the pipeline, though it has kept most of them secret. Unfortunately for 2K Games, a big leak made its way online recently that pulled the curtain back on four of the company's unannounced games, with the claims made backed up by reputable industry insiders. The leaked games include new entries in established franchises as well as a brand new IP, with one of the most intriguing games mentioned in the leak being something known as Codename Volt.

According to the leaked information from swine_flu_greg on Reddit, Codename Volt is the internal name for a new project in the works at 2K Games. Little is known about the game beyond that it will have a logo that looks like the Fallout series logo and that it is apparently still very early in development. A trailer for Codename Volt showed what appeared to be a game that was still "pretty unfinished" though it was described to swine_flu_greg by their source as "Cthulhu meets Saints Row."

While that is all the information that swine_flu_greg was able to get about this mysterious Cthulhu meets Saints Row game, other developers may provide more details. It seems as though the developer of the game is likely to be Hangar 13, the studio known for its work on the Mafia franchise. And an older leak has said that Hangar 13 is working on an "open-world sci-fi title with supernatural elements," meaning that Codename Volt is likely an open world game.

Since its inception, Hangar 13 has worked exclusively on open world games, having developed Mafia 3 and Mafia: Definitive Edition. Considering this, it makes sense that the studio would want to stick to its guns with Codename Volt, which sounds like it could be a rather unique experience. The open world genre is plenty crowded nowadays, but there isn't really a proper open world game inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's works, and that could prove to be pretty interesting in the long run.

Codename Volt sounds like it is way too early in development for an E3 2021 reveal, but it could still be at the show in some capacity. 2K Games parent company Take-Two Interactive is expected to make game announcements on Monday, June 14, so perhaps fans will get a teaser trailer or something to whet their appetite while they wait for a proper announcement. However, fans shouldn't get their hopes up; the only game that the leaker seems confident will be at E3 is the Borderlands spin-off Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.

Besides Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and Codename Volt, the other games mentioned in the leak are NBA 2K22, which will apparently have Dirk Nowitzki as its cover athlete, and a new Marvel strategy game from XCOM developer Firaxis. Hopefully fans will get their first look at some of these games soon.
