2020 is going to be a huge year in terms of new video games. The FPS genre, for instance, will be blown away by the newest Doom Eternal, which is set to release in just a month. While the community is eagerly waiting to slay hordes of demonic monsters, there might be some other games that you don’t know about.

The modern gaming industry relies heavily on offering online experiences, and FPS/TPS games are no different. There’re some well-established projects in the niche of online shooters, but as always, there’re tons of new ones coming. To lend you a helping hand, here’s a list of projects you might’ve never heard of.

10 Ready Or Not

If you happen to be a SWAT fan, then you must’ve heard about Ready Or Not. The game is supposed to be a spiritual successor to SWAT 4, and the developers themselves stress on such a comparison. The game emphasizes hardcore tactics, which doesn’t always involve lethal methods of solving problems. In other words, you can expect such “peaceful” items as, for instance, tasers.

Ready Or Not will offer co-op missions and PvP along with the singleplayer campaign. The game should be ready for release by the end of 2020, so keep an eye on it. And hey, there won’t be any prone-gaming, which is a massive step in maintaining healthy gameplay.

9 Dead Matter

What seems to be yet another survival zombie game is actually a promising concept of an engaging online experience. Dead Matter will offer complex gameplay systems and mechanics. These include deep management of inventory, a huge open world, various real-time events, building and crafting, advanced use of medicines, etc.

Dead Matter started its existence as a mod almost seven years ago, but it’s now targeting a proper standalone release, which will likely happen at the beginning of 2021 rather than in 2020. Still, anything can happen, and this particular game deserves the wait.

8 Back 4 Blood

To continue the zombie theme, here’s the newest project by the creators of legendary Left 4 Dead from Turtle Rock. Playfully titled Back 4 Blood, the upcoming online co-op game is expected to bring back the priceless impressions of the aforementioned original zombie-slaying title. Along with brand new features and improvements on the initial concept, obviously.

For the time being, there’s very little known about Back 4 Blood. It is a spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead with all that it implies. The game doesn’t have a solid release date, but it might very well be out this year.

7 Scavengers

Online survival shooters tend to be popular no matter what, only these days, they often incorporate Battle Royale elements. It is the case for Scavengers, a lovely and intriguing online shooter, which brings together PvE and PvP mechanics. It is class-based, and different characters can have advantages in some specific situations.

The game also has objectives that players need to fulfill in order to progress further and eventually claim the victory. Moreover, there’re global events and encounters to spice up the flow of the match. Once again, there’s no specific date of release, but 2020 could be the year Scavengers come out.

6 Due Process

Another tactical shooter on the list, Due Process follows the steps of Rainbow Six Siege unlike Ready Or Not, which is more conservative in its resemblance to the SWAT series. The game in question relies on thoughtful, yet impressive and engaging combat system with strategic planning and explosive execution.

Team-based gameplay is the center of Due Process. The game elaborates on the planning phase of R6 Siege much further allowing players to select the most favorable equipment and think through the possible moves. Since maps are procedurally generated, Due Process encourages tactical approach instead of layout learning.

5 Enlisted

Enlisted is an online WWII FPS from Gaijin, and the studio is no stranger to offering well-balanced and entertaining online experiences. Unlike its popular War Thunder simulator, Enlisted is going to feature boots-on-the-ground combat. However, the game will also offer the opportunity to use military vehicles for several particular scenarios.

Think of it as of Battlefield V with historical accuracy and huge-scale action with approximately 100-150 soldiers involved. It is yet to be released this year, but interestingly, a silly Battle Royale spin-off of the game, titled Cuisine Royale, has come out before the “parent” project.

4 Crossfire X

CrossFire is a fairly popular online shooter, which has been around for quite some time. It has a plethora of various game modes and a huge fan community. The project is being developed and enhanced in several directions, one of which, known as Crossfire X, is coming this year to Xbox One as a free-to-play release packed with additional content and improvements.

While the core experience will most likely remain untouched, Crossfire X will introduce a proper singleplayer campaign courtesy of Remedy Entertainment. Perhaps, this is the least anticipated feature for an online shooter, but it might help enrich the experience.

3 Outriders

Outriders is an upcoming online looter shooter from the grandmasters of FPS experience, the People Can Fly studio. Set on a hostile and dangerous planet, the game offers a mix of genres in an attempt to create a wholesome co-op experience. It is expected to intrigue the players with deep role-playing options (such as developing your character’s skills and equipment), class-based gameplay, and last but not least, engaging shooting mechanics.

The game reminds of Destiny and Gears of War at the same time, which is already a good testimonial. Outriders are definitely coming this summer, and you can even watch the first gameplay footage online.

2 Rainbow Six Quarantine

Rainbow Six Siege was treated with an outstanding co-op PvE mode a couple of years ago. Titled Outbreak, it was so popular and successful among the players that it eventually led to announcing a standalone spin-off based on the said game mode. Rainbow Six Quarantine will further enhance the ideas put into Outbreak offering the series’ signature tactical gameplay with a twist.

In Quarantine, you and your squad are expected to fight off an alien threat. The mutated space invaders will test your skills, as the operators will show the enemies what they are made of.

1 Disintegration

In a never-ending fight for customers’ attention, developers often throw in some radically innovative ideas, some of which turn out to be actually exciting. Disintegration is probably among such convincing concepts as the game blends together core FPS mechanics and elements of strategic management. The trick is that you control a so-called Gravcycle, a hovering armed-and-dangerous vehicle, while a squad of soldiers fights under your control on the ground.

Along with a proper story campaign, Disintegration offers exciting online PvP where player-controlled squads fight to resolve their contradictions and determine the victorious crew. And yes, the game is indeed coming in 2020.
