Despite being a kappa, he doesn't quite reflect what a kappa usually is – he can't swim, he's weak in sumo wrestling matches, and he hates cucumber to the point of being yelled at by his parent for not eating.According to Zaiyuki, his luck is always in a state of being "carried over", not quite coming into effect to improve his life. He thinks that all this good fortune that seems to be neglecting him should be piled up. He's made up his mind to use all the good luck in one instance, choosing to bet everything on a sweepstake, where he wins a first class prize: a tour of India.

Zaiyuki is extremely excited to embark on his journey west. While at the airport, a monk comes down with a sudden illness and asks Zaiyuki to take a pretty ball-shaped jewel and deliver it to a man with electric-purple hair and shades who will be waiting on the other side. Once arrived at the airport, Zaiyuki's bag containing the jewel becomes animated, and from within the jewel, a golden monkey emerges.

Almost immediately, the armed police force and security surround the confused kappa, but the freshly emerged monkey reveals a red staff that can only be Sun Wukong's Ruyi Jingu Bang, making quick work of the police before a mysterious white van drifts into the airport, and the passengers snatch up Zaiyuki and his new companion. He sees the man that he was supposed to hand the jewel to driving the van, accompanied by a young woman with animal ears and a huge rifle.
