Bandai Namco previously gave players a glimpse at some locations awaiting the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece Odyssey, while the latest trailer shift gears to gameplay to give players a better idea of what they will be doing when the game releases. Developer ILCA takes players on a tour of Alabasta, a pivotal location in One Piece's early narrative, to showcase the finer points of exploration, combat, and quest options. It appears ILCA is going to ensure Alabasta and Waford will have plenty to do and fight as the Straw Hats try to uncover the mysteries of Waford while seeing how different key locations from their previous adventures are.

One Piece Odyssey will center on Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates after the crew becomes stranded on the mysterious island of Waford due to a sudden and powerful storm. Players will take control of Luffy and at least seven other Straw Hats as they fight and explore across Waford to learn the secrets it is hiding while trying to find a way to escape. It will feature a turn-based combat system, with players going into battle with a party of three, alongside exploration which looks to take full advantage of the Straw Hats' various abilities.

The gameplay was the focus of the game's latest extended trailer to give players a deeper look at what awaits them. A key point of the trailer was the game's exploration and how the crew can interact with the world while visiting locations from One Piece's long history. One such feature shown in the trailer are field and character actions, where players can swap between characters freely while exploring to take advantage of the character's abilities to collect items or find hidden spaces.

It appears there will be plenty of quests for players to enjoy, as well, with the trailer highlighting "side stories" available for the Straw Hats. Side quests will become available as players advance through the main story, offering a break from the core mysteries surrounding Waford. The trailer seemingly teases the side stories will also focus on select characters from the crew, with Chopper and Sanji being central to the two quests shown off.

Combat took up a majority of the trailer, though, with it showing some of the finer points of the battle system ILCA has crafted for Odyssey. Aside from typical turn-based style combat, players will need to be mindful of characters' battle type effectiveness which can determine how much less or additional damage characters inflict. The trailer then showed off more of "scramble area battle" where players will need to maximize combat space and "dramatic scenes" providing additional combat conditions for players to try and complete for more experience.

One Piece Odyssey is scheduled to release January 13, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
