WARNING: Manga Spoilers AheadGiven its 20-plus-year run, One Piece has been the center of shounen anime and Manga for a long period. Ever since its first few arcs, Eiichiro Oda has showcased an incredible number of trails and clues for certain plot lines and has kept certain characters in the dark for a long time. This includes characters from the supposed Void Century, which remains a mystery in itself, along with the Roger pirates up to the very present stage of the story.

As the Manga edges closer to the end of the Wano Country arc and the story is said to be entering its final saga by Oda himself, the mysteries and theories fans have analyzed all over the years are set to be answered.

7 Gol D. Roger

Gol D. Roger

The first mysterious character fans are hinted at when starting One Piece is the former Pirate King Gol D. Roger in the first opening, "We Are." He is known as the one who sparked the new generation of pirates, mentioning the existence of the One Piece and its meaning of having "all of what the world has to offer."

Fans who are up-to-date with both the anime and manga will be aware of the flashbacks, which contain a portion of the Roger Pirates' adventures. From what Oda has shown, mysteries are still present with this character in the sense of seeing the events of the God Valley incident play out and the discovery of the One Piece. It is safe to say fans' questions regarding this character will be answered sooner than later.

6 Dracule Mihawk

Mihawk

One of the more unsolved riddles in the world of One Piece is that of Dracule Mihawk. After his first appearance in the Baratie arc and his showcase of complete dominance over our main protagonist's first-mate, Roronoa Zoro, fans continue to speculate over Mihawk's origin and where his motives lie. Viewers will be aware of his connection with Shanks and the fact that the two used to spar with each other.

The former Shichibukai (Seven Warlords of the Sea) member is now supposedly under the command of Buggy, who was recently dubbed a Yonko, in an alliance known as "Cross Guild." One thing fans of the series will know and be familiar with is Oda's hints at what is to come, so the required context is surely on its way.

5 Roronoa Zoro

Zoro

Although Zoro's backstory has been on display within this story, there remains a few unanswered questions regarding the swordsman's lineage. The most at which his family or relatives have been hinted at was indeed within the Wano Country arc, as the comparisons between Ryuma and Zoro were present. A flashback of Yamato's included another swordsman known as Shimotsuki Ushimaru at which many fans drew instant assumptions that this was Zoro's father.

After this was addressed in Oda's SBS, he confirmed that this isn't Zoro's father. Despite this, viewers continue to speculate and draw theories as to whether Ushimaru does indeed have any sort of relation to Zoro, considering how similar they both look. As the story enters its climax, it is only reasonable to believe this will be covered soon enough.

4 Gorosei

Gorosei

As things stand, the World Government in the world of One Piece is shrouded in mystery, and these mysterious figures continue to stir the pot among fans. The Gorosei (Five Elders) are supposedly the highest authority in the World Government besides Imu, and appear to play a crucial part in the structure of the world.

As viewers know, those within the "D" clan are the natural-born enemy of the World Nobles, also known as the Celestial Dragons. Fans are still yet to receive clarification as to what all of these story plots mean, but one thing for sure is the Gorosei are in the same discussion.

3 Monkey D. Garp

Garp

As the grandfather of Monkey D. Luffy, Garp is an interesting character, to say the least. Faced with the ideals of duty and family, Oda has managed to create one of if not the most complex characters in the entirety of One Piece that fans have seen so far. This is present in the Marineford War, as he is placed in the position of opposing his grandchildren in the adopted Portgas D. Ace and Luffy.

Despite his emphasis on the idea of his duty as a marine, he still succumbs to the love for his family. After the death of Ace at the hands of Admiral Akainu, some fans showed their frustrations with Garp and him not being able to save Ace. Fans still wonder where his main ideal lies and how much he balances duty and family.

2 Monkey D. Dragon

Monkey D. Dragon

In the powerhouse of the Monkey D family comes Dragon, the father of Luffy. After the big revelation and reveal in the aftermath of the Water Seven and Enies Lobby arcs, Dragon has had a much more reserved presence within the story. As the son of Garp, fans continue to theorize what Dragon's real background entailed.

Some of these theories include his relationship with Garp, his experience with the Celestial Dragons and World Government ultimately resulting in his direct war against them, how powerful he may be, and why he was unable to grow up with Luffy. As the war between the Revolutionaries and the World Government gets underway, it is only a matter of time before fans find out more.

1 Shanks

Shanks possible member of D family

Recently fans have shown major suspicion of Shanks, as many have contemplated what his true intentions are. In chapter 1054, Shanks was shown asking his first-mate Benn Beckmann if it was time to go and claim the One Piece after the examination of Luffy's new wanted poster. Previously in the Reverie amidst Wano, Shanks made a visit to the Gorosei to talk about a "certain pirate," leaving viewers in the unknown yet again.

Based on Roger and Oden's flashbacks, fans know that Shanks was unable to make the final voyage to the Laugh Tale with the Roger Pirates as he attended to a sick Buggy. If there is any current mystery that could shock fans, it would certainly be the identity and motives of Shanks, as he poses as a potential threat to Luffy's goal of the King of the Pirates.
