Have you ever been watching One Piece and thought to yourself, wow, I would really love to eat a gum-gum fruit myself someday? Well, now you don’t have to only dream about it. Or something close enough, that is - because there’s a cake available to order in Japan that looks exactly like the iconic anime fruit. But when he consumes the rare and covered gum-gum fruit (also called a Devil Fruit), a fruit with magic properties that are sought after by many adventurers, he gains the ability to stretch and bend his body in incredible ways. This ability is how he becomes the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, and helps him get out of plenty of dangerous situations throughout the story.

In Japan, One Piece is one of the most popular anime around, and has been enjoyed by people of all ages for decades now. There have been other gum-gum fruit replica foods on the market, but most of them have been plastic cases of candy, or gummies. This cake takes the concept of anime-themed food to a gourmet level.

The gum-gum fruit cake was created by Patissier Kato, and is actually a layered fruit cake inside an entire muskmelon fruit. The layers are made of whipped cream, sponge cake, strawberries, and of course melon. The outside looks exactly like the fruit in the anime, with a bright purple arabesque pattern on outside. In Japan, layered fruit cakes are fancy and usually quite expensive, especially when they use muskmelons.

That means this gum-gum fruit cake isn’t just another child’s snack. And considering it’s priced at ¥13,000 (around $105USD) it’s probably not going to be gracing the table at many birthday parties, either. But for diehard One Piece fans who have always dreamed of trying the gum-gum fruit and immersing themselves in the world of the anime, it’s just a small price to pay.

Japan places a lot of emphasis on the appearance of food, and what you get will likely always look just like the photograph. Add to that Japan’s love of anime-themed foods, and you get amazing results like this picture-perfect gum-gum fruit cake. We can only hope with its price tag that it’s just as delicious as it looks (and maybe gives you just a touch of superpowers, too).
