As a member of the Straw Hat Pirates, Zoro is among the main protagonists of One Piece, which means that he is involved in almost every arc. Zoro has a lot of fans who try to learn as much as they can about their favorite, but there are still some things that escape their grasp. With that in mind, here's a list that covers the lesser-known things about Roronoa Zoro.

8 Planned To Be A Member Of Buggy's Crew

Zoro as a member of Buggy's crew

Zoro might be a member of the Straw Hat Pirates now, but originally, Oda planned to make him a member of the Buggy's group. To be more specific, Oda wanted to make him Buggy's bodyguard. A sketch of the same was released in Volume 3.

Zoro being a part of Buggy's group would have changed the story so much. It means that Luffy would not have met him in Shells Town as Luffy didn't encounter Buggy until the Orange Town arc. If Oda had not changed his mind, it would be interesting to see who would have replaced Zoro as Luffy's number two, or maybe Oda would have made Zoro leave Buggy's group albeit that would have been very unlikely as Zoro was considered the elder brother of Buggy's group.

6 Possible Devil Fruit

Roronoa Zoro in One Piece

The Straw Hat Pirates are among the most powerful crews in the world. The crew is a mixture of devil fruit and non-devil fruit users, which makes the crew quite balanced. In an SBS, Oda was asked what kind of devil fruit he would give to the Straw Hats who don't have one.

Zoro does not have a devil fruit, so Oda had to give him one too. So, Oda chose the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, which is the devil fruit of Kaido. Interestingly, Oda stated that instead of feeding the devil fruit directly to Zoro, he would prefer it if one of Zoro's swords ate it.

4 Name Based On A Real Pirate

Zoro vs Monet

It is a well-known fact that a lot of characters in One Piece have been inspired by both literary and real-life characters.

In an SBS, Oda confirmed that Zoro's surname, Roronoa, is based on the Japanese pronunciation of François l'Olonnais, a French pirate who lived in the 17th century. This effectively makes Zoro the only Straw Hat whose name is inspired by a real-life pirate.

3 Supernova Status

Zoro

Most of the members of the Worst Generation are captains of their respective crews. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, Kid of Kid Pirates, Blackbeard of Blackbeard Pirates, Law of Heart Pirates, etc.

The feats of these characters prove they are very powerful, and having a spot in this illustrious group is truly special. Zoro and Killer are the only two non-captain members, which is a huge testament to their skill.

He dislikes chocolates as he believes they are too sweet.

Zoro's hobbies include training and drinking alcohol, which go nicely with his character. Like all Straw Hats, Zoro has a specific color, and a number, which are green and two, respectively. Zoro would be a police officer if the Straw Hats were not pirates.
