One Piece finally marked the conclusion of the Wano Country arc with chapter 1058, following which the Straw Hat Pirates departed on their journey to a completely new island closer to the Calm Belt. For the very first time since the beginning of their journey into the New World, fans had no idea where the crew would be heading to next. In the past few chapters, the island to which the crew would eventually head to was made known.
As revealed in One Piece 1061, the Straw Hat Pirates' next destination after spending quite a lot of time in the land of samurai is Egghead Island, also known as the land of science. This place was first teased towards the end of chapter 1060, when Koby was captured by the Blackbeard Pirates and the Navy was seen making their way to the place. Since then, its significance has only grown and, by the looks of it, it appears that the Egghead Island arc will be quite an important one in the final saga of the series.
The Importance Of The Egghead Island Arc
The Egghead Island arc, as mentioned above, marks the beginning of the final saga of One Piece. It is the very first arc that Oda has carefully placed here and, judging by the very first few chapters, it looks to be one with extremely high intensity. Currently, the Straw Hat Pirates are on the hunt for the last Road Poneglyph, which they need to get to the final island, Laugh Tale. The log, however, has led them to Egghead Island, which is dubbed the island of the future. Immediately after stepping foot on the island, it was made known that this is the place where Dr. Vegapunk carries out his many experiments and inventions. As such, this arc carries tremendous significance in the One Piece series.
Vegapunk is a character that the fans have waited for ages. The very first mention of this character came after the events of the Enies Lobby arc and now, over 600 chapters later, this character has finally presented himself. In the past, Oda mentioned that the very true nature of the Devil Fruits will finally be explained by a certain scientist, alluding to Vegapunk. At the same time, his many inventions have, over the years, impacted the world of One Piece significantly. That, and much more, will be handled in this arc, making it quite possibly one of the most important and lore-heavy arcs in the series. The Egghead Island arc won't just deliver a lot of exposition on many secrets of the One Piece world but also play a part in following many storylines for the different factions who are vying for power in the One Piece world.
The Straw Hats on Egghead Island

Expectedly, the Egghead Island arc will be centered around the Straw Hat Pirates, just as any other arc in the series. Luffy and the group are a newly dubbed Emperor crew and this arc will certainly play a part in solidifying that status even further. Here, quite a few characters will receive major moments, especially the ones who are linked to Dr. Vegapunk, in one way or another. Franky, the Shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates is one such character. As fans know, he spent two years in Baldimore, the hometown of Dr. Vegapunk, and studied his works of the past thoroughly. Franky also managed to create the General Franky and install a laser in his body, all thanks to the work that Vegapunk had done on the island before finally leaving the place.
Another major character in the arc would be Sanji, who has ties to Vegapunk as well. Sanji's father, Judge, worked with Vegapunk as a part of MADS. At the same time, his mother, Sora also bears an uncanny resemblance to Lilith, one of the many bodies of Vegapunk. Vegapunk being the most advanced scientific mind in the world and Sanji being the Warrior of Science is due to create a very interesting plot line. Furthermore, Jewelry Bonney, one of the members of the Worst Generation has joined up with the Straw Hat Pirates and she too is due to receive very interesting characterization in the arc and her motives will further be explored. Most importantly, Luffy will once again be at the center of things, with Sabo, his brother, being in danger and Oda teasing the events of Lulusia Kingdom throughout the beginning of the story arc.
The Marines And CP0 On Egghead Island
The Straw Hat Pirates are certainly not the only faction on Egghead Island. The Marines, specifically the SWORD, were first seen heading towards this place towards the end of chapter 1060. The SWORD is a secret organization in the Navy and fans know very little about them as of yet. This arc could well explore them further and, as they inevitably come across the Straw Hat Pirates, fans will certainly find out a lot more about their functioning, and possibly even who leads them. Their motives could finally be revealed and, with the story in its final segment now, this would be the perfect place for Oda to drop information on their hierarchy. At the same time, Smoker and his G5 group also headed to Egghead Island following the events of Punk Hazard. Fans have not seen Smoker and Tashigi in quite a long time and this arc could well develop them even further.
Furthermore, certain members of the CP0 were also seen heading towards the island in the previous chapter and, Oda will certainly look to have them play an important role. Lucci, Stussy, and Kaku were making their way towards the island with a Seraphim of Bartholomew Kuma. The goal is to deliver the Seraphim back to Dr. Vegapunk as it appears to be rather abnormal in some ways. Following that, they are to exterminate every single body of the Navy genius on the order of the World Government. These members of the CP0 are already familiar with the Straw Hat Pirates and their motives, along with those of the World Government, will soon come to light. Furthermore, an already old rivalry with the Straw Hat Pirates will be reignited, which is certainly something that fans would love.
Above all, the Egghead Island arc will serve as a building block for the war to come and the final saga of One Piece. Plots surrounding the Seraphim, which are the new weapon of the World Government, Sabo, who appears to be in danger, and Vivi, who is yet another character with great significance, will be thoroughly explored. All this will be centered around Dr. Vegapunk and his many scientific developments over the years. Fans will finally dive deep into the core of the functioning of the One Piece world and eventually, the Egghead Island arc will take the Straw Hat Pirates one step closer to their goal, all the while building towards a potential war that would far surpass the Summit War.
