Charlotte Linlin, AKA Big Mom, is one of the strongest pirates in One Piece. While her title as the only female Emperor is a testament to her strength, her crew, reputation, and past with the Rocks Pirates are but a few of the other accolades under her belt.
Despite her fame and power, Big Mom is not invincible. With her wavering mental state proving to be her biggest weakness, the Big Mom Pirates' captain has been outsmarted before, and it would only take strategic thinking to overcome her — assuming strength isn't enough. Ranging from sheer brawn to calculated ability use, the following Devil Fruits prove the best chance at countering Big Mom.
10 Doku Doku no Mi
Despite Magellan's Impel Down demotion after the infamous breakout, his Devil Fruit is incredibly menacing. The Vice Warden can diffuse different poisons, with varying status effects, from his body. Being impacted by individual poisons generates varying degrees of fatality, but being affected by all at once is near impossible for victims to recover from.
Although this Fruit boasts a fighting chance in combat, it also has tactical usage against Big Mom. With mastery over poison, Magellan could effortlessly taint Big Mom's biggest cravings, rendering the food she needs either inedible or poisonous. This could cause Big Mom to enter hysteria due to hunger, incapacitating her physically and leaving her open to physical attacks as she seeks out food.
9 Woshu Woshu no Mi
As a Marine, it's undeniable that Tsuru is a capable combatant. Tying in her surprisingly overpowered Devil Fruit, a match-up against Big Mom with the veteran Vice Admiral involved could put a fight in favor of the Marines.
Tsuru's Devil Fruit turns victims into Laundry Humans, subsequently transforming their bodies into a clothing-like state and "washing away" villainous motivations. Combining the ability to make targets immobile with the cleaning of a "dirty heart," this could heavily hinder Big Mom in combat and perhaps completely cleanse her of her evil ways.
8 Kuku Kuku no Mi
While Streusen is Big Mom's ally and chef, his Devil Fruit ability would be detrimental if used against her. The Kuku Kuku no Mi turns objects into food that does not require cooking, and all food is edible.
Where this Fruit thrives is in non-combat scenarios, being optimal for inflicting damage to Big Mom's mental state. Big Mom enters panicked states when hungered, and needs specific cravings met to regain strength. Streusen could use this knowledge to his advantage, replacing the food Big Mom needs with his Fruit-created ones — which Charlotte herself has claimed tastes poor. Streusen could eventually wear Big Mom down by holding back the food she craves and then using it to essentially control her.
7 Mera Mera no Mi
Inheriting his brother's Devil Fruit, Sabo has mastery over fire and is able to engulf himself and his weapons in flames. While lower in the Logia-Fruit hierarchy, this is still an arguably powerful and popular Fruit, being desperately sought after during the Dressrosa arc.
It was revealed that Big Mom enters a vulnerable, breakdown state when her beloved framed photo of Mother Carmel is damaged. In the event that this photo was present, Sabo could easily disintegrate it, causing Big Mom to lower her defenses and cause harm to herself and others around her. While other mediums could achieve this, Sabo's speed and capabilities with the Mera Mera no Mi serve a great chance in burning Big Mom's treasured photo.
6 Moa Moa no Mi
One thing that's clear about Big Mom is her pure toughness, and taking her down requires enough force to fight back. That's where the Moa Moa no Mi comes in, a Paramecia-type Fruit eaten by Byrnndi World. World was only featured in the 3D2Y anime special, but his Fruit exemplified tremendous potential.
This Fruit takes the size, speed, and strength of anything the user desires and increases it. This could either be an object, such as a bullet or weapon, or the user's own speed, allowing impacts that are up to 100 times more powerful. Combining this power growth with Busoshoku Haki (which World utilizes), the Fruit vaunts a remarkable power boost with speed and amplified physical strength, which could rival Big Mom's own power levels.
5 Yami Yami no Mi
Wielding two Devil Fruits, Blackbeard has an impressive arsenal at his disposal. His Logia Fruit, however, is the one that Big Mom should be fearful of, given its nullifying properties. The Fruit grants Blackbeard expertise over darkness, with specific techniques involving blackholes and gravity manipulation.
Beyond the Fruit's innate potential, its power to void Devil Fruit users' abilities is devastating in itself, since it can completely throw off users who rely too heavily on their powers. A major part of Big Mom's prowess is her Homies, extensions of her created by her Fruit. Nullifying her abilities would leave her unarmed, which would then fall to whether she can sustain constant damage from Blackbeard.
4 Bijo Bijo no Mi
Although considered non-canon, The Bijo Bijo no Mi is a Devil Fruit with exemplary illusionary skills. It allows its user, Ann, to generate life-like images based on objects she touches. Ann exemplified this by making a phantom depiction of Ace, allowing the brothers to pave a way for Luffy's escape in the captivating movie, One Piece: Stampede.
With Big Mom's fixation on her Mother Carmel photo, Ann could trick the Emperor by bringing the image to life. It's evident that Big Mom holds high regard to Mother Carmel, and seeing her manifested could elicit a dramatic reaction, something Ann could strategically consider when depicting her.
3 Hobi Hobi no Mi
Sugar possesses an undeniably underrated Devil Fruit despite how strong it is. With it, she can turn victims into toys and erase them from people's memories, so long as they remain in their toy-like state. The only limitation to this Fruit is that Sugar needs to physically touch her victims to transform them. This does, however, extend to Devil Fruit abilities, as Sugar transformed Robin by touching a sprouted limb.
This suggests, then, that Sugar could perhaps touch a Homie to turn Big Mom since technically they contain part of her soul. Even if this is not the case, Big Mom is massive, so it would only take an impressive offensive line-up to aid Sugar in defeating Big Mom in a single touch.
2 Buku Buku no Mi
Much like with Streusen, Charlotte Mont-D'or would most likely not use any ability against Big Mom, seeing as he's her son and part of the ever-powerful Big Mom Pirates. That's not to say, however, that the Fruit itself wouldn't be a threat.
Mont D'Or possesses many abilities with the Buku Buku no Mi, but his most notable involves trapping people within books. If he were to trap Big Mom in one of his books, he could deprive her of food, baiting her with bribery to release her and satisfy her hunger. This could ultimately set him up for making his mother do as he pleases, which could succeed so long as she leaves her in a book long enough to drop her common sense from being hungry.
1 Yomi Yomi no Mi
Brook is a Devil Fruit user who has in fact faced off against Big Mom alongside his fellow Straw Hats, and he was able to survive the encounter. What was proven during his confrontation with Big Mom is that his Devil Fruit ability can in fact rival hers, as they both pertain to soul manipulation in different forms.
A major selling point of Big Mom's Devil Fruit is its ability to extract souls and turn them into Homies that are seemingly indestructible. Brook, however, has manipulation over his own soul because of his Devil Fruit, and he can project it to overpower the Homies. Moreover, while most other attacks can't even damage Homies extracted from Big Mom's own soul, Brook's Devil Fruit allows him to, as it was shown that he's able to injure them.
