After the conclusion of the Wano Country arc, fans were expecting Eiichiro Oda to slow things down in the next arc. However, Oda decided to take a completely different approach and go all out in the Egghead Island arc. So far, the new arc has been absolutely phenomenal, as Oda has divulged many secrets that he had been keeping from the fans. A few chapters into the Egghead Island arc, the members of CP0 received an order from the higher-ups that shocked the readers.
Rob Lucci and his group were given the task of destroying all the satellites of Dr. Vegapunk and dropping Kuma's Seraphim on Egghead Island. Lucci did ask why the World Government would want to eliminate the most useful man in the world, but Stussy and Kaku shut him down immediately. For the next few chapters, there was no mention of CP0, and the focus changed back to Dr. Vegapunk and the secrets of Ohara. However, in One Piece Chapter 1067, Rob Lucci and co. finally appeared near Egghead Island. They had already destroyed one of the robotic sea beasts and requested to dock. Shaka told everyone that they will not allow CP0 to dock, and that they must prepare for the worst-case scenario.
How Will CP0 React?
CP0 is directly under the command of the World Nobles, which is why they have a great deal of authority. They are the strongest assassins that are affiliated with the World Government. The members of CP0 are categorized into two types— masked and unmasked. The masked members are considered to be the strongest members in CP0, while the unmasked are considerably weaker. One thing that is common between both groups is that they are extremely ruthless and do not care about committing heinous acts to complete a mission. This became evident when some World Nobles tried to capture Shirahoshi, and Rob Lucci just watched and prevented anyone else from interfering.
It has been established that CP0 has no morality whatsoever, they only care about carrying out their orders. Shaka denying them entry to the island can only mean one thing— conflagration.
Rob Lucci might try and ask again nicely before resorting to violence, but it doesn't seem that either group is going to go back on their word. CP0, in particular, cannot go back empty-handed. The World Government clearly suspects Vegapunk of having some ulterior motives, or it is possible that they found out about his connection to Dragon, although the chances of that happening are low. Another possible reason could be that they believe Vegapunk has served his purpose, and it is time to eliminate him in case he becomes too big for them to handle.
It is perfectly plausible considering the twenty kings who founded the World Government destroyed the ancient kingdom because it was too technologically advanced. They feared the name of the kingdom, which is why they placed an embargo on the reading of Poneglyphs. Vegapunk has confirmed that he created Egghead Island based on the image of the ancient kingdom. Whatever the reason is for Vegapunk's assassination, the World Government definitely seems cautious.
Facing Old Enemies
Rob Lucci and the other members of CP0 are not aware of the presence of the Straw Hat Pirates, but they do have information about Jewelry Bonney being spotted on Egghead Island. Lucci openly stated that he wants to kill Bonney because he believes she is a pest who has served her purpose. It is an important detail, which makes one wonder what the World Government wanted from her. Fans can expect to learn the answer to this question in the upcoming chapters, as Bonney is going to be an influential character in the arc.
Knowing Rob Lucci, he will try to enter Egghead Island forcefully, which means he will eventually learn about the whereabouts of the Straw Hats. This could cause CP0 to change their approach and maybe even abandon their plans. While Lucci and Kaku will want revenge for what happened in Enies Lobby, it is impossible for them to take on Luffy's crew.
Who Would Win?
The Straw Hat Pirates are one of the strongest pirate crews in the world. After the events of the Wano Country arc, they are no longer an ordinary pirate crew as Luffy has been acknowledged as one of the Yonko. Besides, the last meeting between the Straw Hat Pirates and the assassins of the World Government ended badly for them. Despite their knowledge of Haki, Lucci, and Kaku couldn't defeat Luffy and Zoro in their respective fights.
While it is perfectly plausible to assume that both groups have grown stronger, there is a small chance of Lucci and Kaku being more powerful than their opponents. Since their previous encounter, Luffy has defeated the likes of Kaido, Katakuri, and Doflamingo. Meanwhile, Zoro has taken down Pica, Hawkins, and King. It is obvious that the Straw Hats have way too many skilled fighters, and if they were to come face-to-face with CP0, they would run rampant. So, it would be in the best interests of the agents to leave Egghead Island and come back with more backup.
