It takes just over 230 episodes of One Piece for viewers to be introduced to this blue-haired behemoth. Cutty Flam was once a rambunctious young scavenger that turned just about everything he could find into a battleship. Under the expert tutelage of Tom, Cutty Flam's ship building skills grew to match his booming confidence. After a heaping dose of tragedy, which One Piece fans recognize as a series staple, Cutty found himself badly injured, though he was able to repair his broken body with metal scraps that he found from a shipwreck. This event transformed him into the lovable cyborg shipwright, Franky.
Every member of the Straw Hat Pirates has incredible meme potential, and Franky's over the top intensity and desperate need to party have caused fans to create absolute works of art. Franky can pose like no one else, and yell with more gusto than an army of sea kings. Above all, Franky protects his ship and his crew mates, and he doesn't need pants to do either.
10 Based Franky
Could Franky be the most based member of the Straw Hat Pirates? There's a pretty good argument presented here. Franky is introduced in Water 7, and fans get precious lore on his origins, his youth, and the events that put him on this path. Though Robin's background is explained episodes later, and Usopp goes through massive character development as well, in possibly his best moments before the time skip.
Seriously, Water 7 is loaded with character work. This does not bother Franky in the slightest, however. Franky stands tall, assisting the Straw Hats in their mission and rallying his gang of miscreants, the Franky Family, behind Luffy. He even provides key advice for both Robin and Usopp during their own internal trials. Outrageously based activity from Oda's favorite ship crafting cyborg.
9 Franky Is A Can Of Baja Blast
Mountain Dew Baja Blast is one of the most finely crafted soft drinks ever produced. Its tropical nature and crisp flavor have captivated thirsty fast food fanatics for decades. In a similar vein, Franky's radical vibes and tropical fashion sense can easily leave One Piece viewers reminiscing of times they've cracked open cans of Baja Blast with their own crew.
Additionally, if fans had to pick one member from the Straw Hat pirates for a Taco Bell run, Franky is the obvious choice. It could even be argued that if Franky had to rely on real world colas for his cyborg abilities, Baja Blast would almost certainly be the one to stash away behind those rad robotic abs.
8 Franky's Painful Introduction To The Crew
In one of the many touching moments towards the end of Water 7 and Enies Lobby, Franky is troubled by his decision to leave the Franky Family behind and join the Straw Hats. Though unknown to him, pretty much everyone else, including key members of the Franky Family, had already decided that it would be best for him to go.
Franky was emotionally wrecked and genuinely torn between the family he had built at Water 7, and the new one that awaited him on The Thousand Sunny, the ship he built for the Straw Hats. He needed a reason to cry and let it all out, and, with a quick flick of the wrist, Robin gave him all the reason he needed.
7 Franky Is A Walking Tank
Franky, being a cyborg, is unsurprisingly a walking arsenal. He's got an immense amount of firepower at all times, including various guns built into his arms, powerful cola based cannon attacks, and control over the Thousand Sunny's various weapons and cannons.
Franky's enemies have a lot to deal with when he steps onto the battlefield, and he's hard to predict as well. He keeps his foes constantly guessing with his cola based offense and even has Devil Fruit users quaking in their boots as he trudges toward them with maximum gusto.
6 Franky Mows The Sunny's Lawn
The Thousand Sunny has a ton of life upgrades when compared to the Straw Hats' original ship, The Going Merry. One of these upgrades is a lawn on the deck of the ship that can be used for growing useful herbs and the like. This does imply that someone has to mow that lawn, and who better than Franky.
To set the scene, it's about 5 am on The Sunny, most of the crew is still sleeping, except for Franky, who slaps a button on a wall to start an epic garage opening scene to reveal his custom cola powered lawn mower. He begins mowing the lawn with just the biggest grin imaginable on his face as the mower screams across the lawn, waking every crew member on board, except for maybe Luffy. Also, Luffy's hat would be the ideal choice for grass cutting, though Franky's chances of borrowing it are slim.
5 Franky's Immediate Value To The Straw Hats
Franky essentially took the Straw Hat Pirates to the next level, in terms of quality of life. He built them a brand new, fully upgraded ship with every possible amenity they could ever want or need. Franky is also constantly working on projects aboard The Sunny.
His title as the crew's shipwright keeps him busy repairing his beloved Sunny from the countless battles with rival pirate crews and monster attacks the poor ship experiences on the harsh seas. If The Sunny is in good shape, viewers can find Franky working tirelessly to create new features and novelties aboard the vessel.
4 Franky Plays Fortnite
One Piece and Fortnite fans alike can appreciate this lovely screenshot from the Thriller Bark arch of the show. Franky needs to build an emergency staircase to reach his allies on the other side of a large gap, so he simply goes into build mode and begins crafting a midair staircase with Chopper's help.
Franky what would be a force to be reckoned with descending from the Battle Bus. No pro sniper could hope to catch him off guard, and No Build Mode wouldn't even be an option to Franky. With the game's build system, he could easily whip up an army of warships in seconds to get that sweet Victory Royale.
3 Franky Bites
This is a scene from Franky's origin arch in the show, where he is being arrested and taken to the Marine town of Enies Lobby. Franky puts up a fight alongside his brother Iceburg, Water 7's leader. He still finds himself in chains, however, and as the marines are attempting to transport Franky, he bites one of their heads.
Franky loves Water 7 despite the town's distaste for him and his gang. He still considered the land his home since it's where Tom showed him how to be an expert shipwright and, more importantly, how to live a happy life. That being said, it's easy to see why he was quick to consume marine flesh when he was left with no other options.
2 Franky Is Not Afraid To Cry
Viewers see Franky sob tears of empathy for many of his fellow crew mates. He begins crying after learning of the immense trauma Robin has had to endure her whole life, and does the same after learning of Brook's past and current motivations.
Franky is a great friend to have aboard, it's as if he can genuinely feel the pain that his friends have experienced for himself. For Franky, it's just simply amazing to have such strong friends that have seen so much tragedy, and still maintain a positive outlook on the other side. It's so amazing that it moves him to a plethora of powerful tears.
1 Franky's Head Canon
Despite legitimately having a head cannon, this meme begs the question: what would Franky's head canon legitimately look like? Would his canon truly differ from the show's actual events? Does he view the other Straw Hats as his new-found Franky Family? Does he really think he's the best the crew has to offer, and that Luffy is just all talk?
Likely not the case. Franky has shown time and time again that he's along for the ride and happy to play his role the best he can. He loves his Straw Hat family and will do anything to keep them safe and make Luffy the king. Additionally, who wouldn't want a friend with an awesome cannon on their head?
