One Piece entered its two-year timeskip after the events of the Paramount War wrapped up. The Paramount War was the culmination of every major event before the two-year timeskip. It saw the Whitebeard Pirates and their allies clash against the Navy and the Seven Warlords of the Sea in a battle for Portgas D. Ace.

The war ended with the deaths of both Ace and Whitebeard. After the timeskip, deaths have only increased in One Piece, with several major characters having faced their doom in one way or another. These characters range from villains to beloved characters and, with every arc, the number keeps on increasing.

Updated on October 13, 2023, by Rei Penber: One Piece has gotten more serious than ever before or after the timeskip, with Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates finally entering the New World, the most dangerous ocean in the entire world. With such a brave step, it was only natural that the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies would face bigger threats. As such, quite a lot of characters have died in One Piece after the timeskip. In the Final Saga alone, fans have seen quite a lot of popular characters fall to their deaths and there are a lot of others who will most likely follow as well. While this list already goes over the vast majority of the characters who died in One Piece after the timeskip, there are new One Piece deaths that have been confirmed in the Final Saga. With that, this list has now been updated.

14 Vergo

Vergo one piece

The very first death that fans got to witness in One Piece after the two-year timeskip was that of Vergo. Vergo was introduced to the fans as a member of the G5 unit of the Navy.

In truth, he was an undercover pirate from Doflamingo's crew who had made his way into the Navy to supply him with information. Vergo was defeated by Trafalgar Law, one of the members of the Worst Generation and, ultimately, killed as well.

13 Monet

Monet, an officer of the Donquixote Pirates

Monet was introduced to the fans during the Punk Hazard arc, along with Vergo. She was one of the pirates working as an assistant to Caesar in the lab and also served as one of his strongest fighters. She had the ability of the Yuki Yuki no Mi up her sleeve and was a threat to the vast majority of people that she faced in battle.

Monet was gravely injured by Tashigi when the two fought and, shortly afterwards, her heart was stabbed by Caesar Clown and she ended up falling to her death.

12 Pedro

In the Whole Cake Island arc, fans saw Luffy's small group take on the Big Mom Pirates in an attempt to rescue Sanji. Entering a Yonko's territory meant putting their lives on the line and Luffy and his group were ready for this risk.

By the end of the arc, it was almost impossible to make their way out of the Yonko's territory with the crew intact. When Perospero, Katakuri, and Big Mom had the crew surrounded, Pedro ended up blowing himself up in a massive explosion and paved the path for the group to escape.

11 Absalom

Absalom during the Thriller Bark arc

Absalom is one of the characters who the fans were introduced to during the Thriller Bark arc. He did not make much of an appearance after the timeskip, however, it was revealed to the fans during the Wano Country arc that he was killed by none other than Blackbeard and his crew.

Absalom was on the Pirate Island and it was there that he faced his untimely death. His Devil Fruit was stolen by none other than Shiryu of the Rain. How exactly he was killed remains to be seen, however, it is unlikely that Oda will ever shed light on that.

10 Shimotsuki Yasuie

In the Wano Country arc, fans got to see quite a few One Piece deaths, and, given that this arc was the culmination of several arcs before it and that it erupted in a massive war, deaths were always going to be likely.

The very first casualty in this arc was none other than Shimotsuki Yasuie. After giving himself up and pretending to be the Witching Hour Boy, Yasuie gave the rebelling forces another chance to launch a raid on Onigashima. Without him, the war would never have been won. In fact, the raid would not even have been possible without his sacrifice.

9 Ashura Doji

Ashura Doji One Piece

In the raid of Onigashima, several powerful characters ended up laying their lives down. The very first of them was none other than a member of the Nine Red Scabbards of Kozuki Oden, Ashura Doji. When Kanjuro used his Oden clone to trick the Scabbards, Ashura was the only one who remained unaffected by his little tricks.

Kanjuro intended to blow up all the Nine Red Scabbards with the clone, however, Ashura took it up on himself to make sure that the others lived. He ended up sacrificing himself and was charred to death in the explosion.

8 Izo

Izo One Piece

Izo was introduced to the fans during the Paramount War where he was revealed to be the 16th Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. Izo fought against the Navy back then and, in Wano, he returned to fight for the Nine Red Scabbards against the Yonko Kaido and the Shogun of Wano, Kurozumi Orochi.

Izo fought against Kaido on the rooftop and, later, stopped CP0 from chasing after his friends. He ended up sacrificing his life for Kiku, and all the other members of the Pirate Alliance, specifically the Straw Hat Pirates.

7 Big Mom (Potential)

Big Mom in One Piece anime

One of the two unconfirmed One Piece deaths in Wano, Big Mom faced Trafalgar Law and Eustass Captain Kid in Wano. While she remained dominant for the vast majority of the fight, she was eventually damaged significantly by the Awakened powers of the two Worst Generation members. Big Mom ended up being thrown down from the flying island and she fell into a magma pit under Wano country.

Furthermore, she also ended up getting caught up in an explosion caused by several bombs that were in the basement of Onigashima, powerful enough to blow up an entire island. Shortly afterwards, she was caught up in a giant volcanic eruption which caused a cataclysm. It is unknown if she is alive or dead, however, her being dead is highly likely.

6 Kaido (Potential)

Kaido From One Piece

Just like Big Mom, Kaido ended up being defeated in the Wano Country arc and this marked the fall of two of the Four Emperors of the Sea in One Piece. Kaido fell at the hands of Monkey D. Luffy, the protagonist of the story. After being hit by the powerful Bajrang Gun, Kaido crashed straight into the ground and was sent to the same magma pit where Big Mom was, miles under Wano Country.

After being completely knocked out, Kaido ended up being caught up in the same volcanic eruption that caused a cataclysm. Ever since then, his whereabouts remain unknown, however, it wouldn't be a surprise if he is actually dead.

5 Mjosgard

Donquixote Mjosgard

Saint Mjosgard was one of the Celestial Dragons who was first introduced to the fans during the Fishman Island arc. Although he was evil at first, the kindness that Queen Otohime showed him changed his heart for good. He supported the cause of the Fishmen after that and when, during the Reverie, Charloss attacked Shirahoshi, it was he who jumped to her rescue.

Since he aided the dwellers of Fishman Island, he was punished for it by none other than the leader of the Holy Knights, Saint Garling Figarland. He was crucified and is most likely dead. His fate was never confirmed in the series, however, fans can assume him to have died for now.

4 Shaka

Shaka is shot

Shaka was one of the six Vegapunk satellites that were introduced to the fans during the Egghead arc. Shaka was the logical side of Vegapunk who dumped quite a lot of lore on the fans at the beginning of the arc. Shaka was certainly one of the most interesting personalities when it comes to the Vegapunk bodies.

However, unfortunately, he did not last long in the arc. He was one of the very first to fall, thanks to York and her betrayal. Shaka was shot directly through the head after he entered an old abandoned Devil Fruit laboratory. It was later confirmed that Shaka could not be reconstructed, and he has officially joined the list of One Piece deaths.

3 Pythagoras

Pythagoras one piece

Pythagoras is another one of the Vegapunk satellites to have been introduced in the Egghead Arc. Pythagoras was the wisdom of Vegapunk and he certainly worked very hard to come up with new ideas and put them into action. When the traitor among the Vegapunk bodies was announced, Pythagoras took it upon himself to search for Stella. Eventually, he ended up running into S-Snake.

Even though he detached his head in time and managed to survive a little longer, it didn't take the Seraphim long to defeat him as well as Usopp, Franky, and Lilith. The others were petrified while Pythagoras was stepped on, being completely destroyed in the process. Since there were no traces of him left, Pythagoras could not be reconstructed. His death has been officially confirmed in the Egghead arc of One Piece.

2 King Cobra

Cobra death one piece chapter 1085

King Cobra is one of the most beloved characters in One Piece. Known to be the ruler of Arabasta, Cobra went to the Reverie with questions of his own. He was one of the main reasons why the warlord system was completely abolished. However, after his major speech, he went to see the Five Elders.

He posed great questions to them regarding the people of the D and the meaning of this initial, sealing his own fate in the process. To make things worse, he also ended up seeing the ruler of the entire world, Imu. The fact that he saw the sovereign meant that he could no longer be allowed to live. Cobra was murdered on the site and Sabo was blamed for his death.

1 Garp (Potential)

Garp From One Piece

Garp is quite clearly one of the most important characters in the entirety of One Piece, being Luffy's grandfather. In the Final Saga, the Hero of the Marines was seen making a move in order to rescue Koby. He went to the Pirate Island, where the Blackbeard Pirates were present. There, he ended up freeing quite a lot of the slaves, working together with his unit and, most importantly, he freed Koby as well. Garp was confronted by his own student, Kuzan.

Even though Garp completely overwhelmed him in battle, the other commanders of the Blackbeard Pirates landed dirty blows on him. When that happened, Garp slowly started getting weaker. He ended up securing an escape for his students, however, at the end of the day, he could not secure his own escape from the island. He received quite a lot of grievous injuries and, in the end, was stabbed right through the chest by Aokiji using a giant ice structure. He was then completely frozen. While there is a chance for him to be alive, just like Saul was, there is nothing that can be said for sure and the chances for him to have actually died is equally as high.
