The Admirals are known to be the strongest military asset of the World Government and the Navy in One Piece. Possessing tremendous powers that include fantastic control over Haki and overpowered Devil Fruit abilities, these characters are feared throughout the world and pose a great danger to any pirate. Before the timeskip, their ranks were made up of Sakazuki, also known as Akainu, Kuzan, also known as Aokiji, and finally, Borsalino, also known as Kizaru.

After the Paramount War, a major power shift took place and two positions in the Marines opened up for the Admirals. While Fujitora took one, the other was occupied by Ryokugyu, also known as Green Bull, who has been a mystery for the majority of the story. In the Wano Country arc, however, fans finally got to see what he's capable of.

Spoilers for the manga and anime will be included.

10 His Real-Life Inspiration

Yoshio Harada Greenbull Ryokugyu

Eiichiro Oda has never shied from using real-life figures as inspiration for his characters in One Piece. His designs for the Admirals, especially, are usually based on real-life actors from Japan.

For instance, Akainu is based on the famous Japanese actor named Bunta Sugawara. Green Bull's case is no different. By the looks of it, Green Bull's appearance seems to be based on Yoshio Harada, a popular Japanese actor and music artist.

9 His Real Name

Just like all other Admirals of the Marines to have been introduced in the story so far, Green Bull also has a different name. In fact, "Green Bull" is actually just his alias in the Navy. His real name was revealed recently in One Piece chapter 1053 to be Aramaki.

This name also seems to carry significance as it is based on one of the characters that his real-life inspiration, Harada, played in one of his movies. Aramaki was known to be a lecherous man who later received redemption.

8 A Beast

While the true extent of Ryokugyu's power isn't known, being an Admiral means that he's monstrously strong. During the Dressrosa arc of One Piece, fans were introduced to Fujitora, the man who joined the Navy at the same time as Ryokugyu.

When Doflamingo confronted Fujitora on Greenbit, he openly referred to him and Ryokugyu as monsters within the Navy. This is no surprise, given that they are the strongest military force that the World Government possesses.

7 His Tattoo

Admiral Ryokugyu from One Piece

Green Bull seems to have a tattoo across his chest that he displayed to the fans in One Piece chapter 1053. The tattoo reads Shi (death), Kawa (river), and Shinju (in mind). The word Shinju is often used to refer to double suicide, which is common among lovers.

As such, Green Bull's tattoo can be literally interpreted as "a double suicide at the river of death." It is also possible that Oda chose this tattoo for the character to reference Yoshio Harada's song "Shinjuku Shinju."

6 His Haki

Ryokugyu with a transponder snail

It is beyond a shadow of a doubt that Green Bull is a capable user of Haki, as seen when he coated his root-like extensions in it. It has already been established in the series that all Marines who hold the rank of Vice-Admiral and higher have access to Haki.

As such, Green Bull is likely a very capable user of both Armament and Observation Haki. It wouldn't be a surprise for him to know how to use Ryuo as well, given that Akainu, Aokiji, and Kizaru were seen demonstrating the usage of this ability during the Paramount War.

5 His Devil Fruit

One Piece 1053 Ryokugyu

Green Bull seems to have eaten a Paramecia type of Devil Fruit the powers of which were first alluded to during the Reverie arc. Based on his statement of not having eaten in 3 years, a connection to him using photosynthesis to survive was drawn.

In One Piece chapter 1052, fans saw Aramaki sprout a flower from his back to fly to Wano. Soon afterward, he was seen using his Devil Fruit powers in Udon, where he turned the entire barren terrain into a lush green forest. It is quite clear that he possesses a plant-based Devil Fruit power.

4 Absorbing Water

Sprouting flowers and changing terrain isn't all that Ryokugyu is capable of. In fact, he possesses a terrifying ability that allows him to absorb water from anyone he is fighting.

In Udon Prison, Green Bull destroyed the likes of Babanuki and all his minions by using root-like extensions to suck moisture from their bodies, leaving them a husk of their former selves. What's more, he also took on an already injured King and Queen in a fight and was able to do the same to them, defeating both with very little effort.

3 A Swordsman

Fujitora and Ryokugyu

Just like Fujitora, Ryokugyu also seems to carry a sword. His proficiency with this weapon is, however, unknown for the most part. During his short fight in Udon Prison, he didn't use his sword and instead relied on his Devil Fruit powers.

It is possible that Green Bull felt his opponents were not strong enough for him to use his sword, or perhaps he isn't a conventional swordsman and simply carries it to give him more versatility in combat.

2 Black Blade

While unsure just yet, it is possible that Green Bull carries a black blade at his waist. During his full reveal, he was seen carrying a sword without a sheath and its appearance looked rather similar to that of a black blade.

If true, Green Bull would be the only third person in One Piece to wield a black blade after Dracule Mihawk, the World's Strongest Swordsman, and Shimotsuki Ryuma, the God of Blade from Wano. Having a black blade would also suggest that Green Bull possesses incredibly powerful Armament Haki.

1 He Can Fly

Flight isn't a very common power in the world of One Piece and very few Devil Fruits grant this ability to the user. Green Bull can make special use of his Devil Fruit in a way that allows him to soar through the skies.

In One Piece chapter 1052, he was seen making use of a giant flower that sprouted from his back and enabled him to fly all the way to Wano. Whether this ability is conventional to use in combat or not remains to be seen.
