Olivia Colman might soon be adding another title to her portfolio, one that introduces her into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After her successful run as Queen Elizabeth II on The Crown, the Oscar winner is in talks to join Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion, one of the many shows planned for Disney Plus.

Details of the Secret Invasion plot have not been revealed thus far, and it remains unclear what role Colman would play. However, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the actress could soon be added to the roster, which already includes Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn as the shape-shifting Skrull leader Talos, and Kingsley Ben-Adir as the series’ villain

Colman has had a great career jump in the past few years, with her winning an Oscar and a Golden Globe in 2019 in the Best Actress category for her performance in Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite. She also scored nominations at both awards shows this year in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Florian Zeller’s The Father. She has also won the Golden Globe for her regal role in Netflix's The Crown and another one back in 2016 for her portrayal of Angela Burr in The Night Manager. The talented actress is known for her comic timing, while also excelling at portraying darker roles. It would be interesting to see her become a part of the MCU and perhaps even team up with Fury’s crew in Secret Invasion.

Secret Invasion Nick Fury

Based on the popular crossover Marvel comic book series of the same name, Secret Invasion will focus on a long-term invasion of the planet by the Skrulls, who secretly replace many superheroes in the MCU with impostors over the years. The series will follow the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home and Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, which ended with Carol Danvers giving Fury a two-way pager, so that he is able to message across galaxies.

Fury was seen using this pager in a post-credits scene set during the blip in Avengers: Infinity War. Fans will also remember that Fury was last seen on a Skrull ship in space, whereas Talos was pretending to be Fury on earth during Spider-Man: Far From Home.

While no release date has been confirmed for Secret Invasion so far, shooting is expected to begin in the fall in the UK. Kyle Bradstreet, one of the many people who were responsible for Mr. Robot, has been brought on board to write the script and executive produce the Disney Plus show.

Secret Invasion is currently in production at Disney Plus.
