About a month ago, rumors suggested that Okami HD would be making its way onto PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One sometime later this year, and now it seems as if the scuttlebutt was right all along. As it so happens, the publisher and developer Capcom has now officially confirmed that a high definition version of the 2006 action-adventure video game will be coming to each of the aforementioned platforms on December 12, 2017 for $20, with PS4 and Xbox One owners having the option of buying a physical edition or digital iteration, and PC players only being able to download it.

As seen below in the initial trailer for Okami HD, fans are given a look at the updated visuals of the title's Sumi-e ink art style, and are shown some gameplay involving the main character Amaterasu – that is, the Japanese sun goddess who inhabits the form of a legendary white wolf Shiranui on a quest to defeat Orochi, an eight-headed demon responsible for turning the world into a wasteland. Amaterasu’s magical abilities, items, attacks, and Celestial Brush techniques will help players restore the land of Nippon to its previous glory, as she helps an interesting cast of characters all while battling a bevy of baddies along the way.

When it comes to additional features in Okami HD, Capcom has confirmed that players will be able to choose between playing in a modern widescreen format or in the original release’s 4:3 ratio. Furthermore, the game's interactive loading screens from the initial release are also included, as they will allow fans to to earn bonus demon fangs that are capable of being traded for various in-game items. Not to mention, Okami HD will be compatible with Xbox One X and PS4 Pro and offer 4K graphics on the consoles, as well as on supported PC hardware.

Taking all of this into consideration, the release of Okami HD ought to please the innumerable fans who have been wanting to see the title updated for current generation platforms, and it will likely cause them to pine for an actual followup as well. While Capcom has yet to officially confirm Okami 2, the launch of the high definition version of the original title, as well as Platinum Games co-founder Hideki Kamiya's tease for a sequel could point toward a new entry in the franchise to come.

Okami HD is set to release on December 12, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
