Ever since the launch of the PlayStation 5, Sony has been consistent with launching games PlayStation Plus games at the same time each month. While Sony has suspiciously not revealed what games will join PS Plus next month, one of April's games has already been confirmed. Oddworld: Soulstorm, the newest entry in the cult classic cinematic platformer series that made its debut on the PS1, will debut on PlayStation Plus for PS4 and PS5 on April 6, 2021.

Oddworld: Soulstorm was revealed all the way back in 2016 an initial release date of 2017, however, the game has been delayed multiple times for almost 5 years now. Soulstorm is the first Oddworld title since Oddworld: New n' Tasty, a remake of the original PS1 classic Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. The remake was developed by Just Add Water, the developer behind the upcoming game, which will also be directed by series creator Lorne Lanning in the series' first new installment since 2005's Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath for the Xbox.

A new trailer was revealed during Sony's latest State of Play showcase, which revealed information on the game's story, which acts as a sequel to New n' Tasty while also remaking elements of the original's sequel, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, which was released in 1998. The game will be console exclusive to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, with a PC port coming to the Epic Games Store exclusively. Furthermore, Sony has confirmed that Oddworld: Soulstorm will be launching as a free PlayStation Plus title on April 6th, however, it appears that the title will only be free to PS5 owners.

Oddworld: Soulstorm joins Bugsnax, Destruction AllStars, and Control: Ultimate Edition as one of the first PS5 titles to launch into PlayStation Plus on its release day. What this means is that in April, PS5 owners can expect to receive three games as usual, while PS4 owners may only receive one or two titles, depending on if Sony decides to include another cross-generation title in the service. It's hard to quantify this as Sony has still not revealed what titles are coming PS Plus in March, which is especially strange considering the announcements are generally made on the last Wednesday of every month.

Regardless, fans of Oddworld on PS5 can look forward to playing the game for free as part of PS Plus only just over a month from now, and players who have never tried the series can either prepare themselves by jumping into New n' Tasty through backward compatibility, or wait for Soulstorm to arrive in April.

Oddworld: Soulstorm will arrive on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 on April 6, 2021.
