Oculus Quest 2 owners already have a gaming showcase scheduled to take place later this month, which will highlight some upcoming and already existing games, like Pistol Whip and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge, as well as a few extra surprises to boot. And recently, it's been announced that a new v28 software update is set to roll out and will introduce new features, such as a way to wirelessly play PC VR games.

Usually, the Oculus Quest 2 needs to be physically connected to a PC in order to play games. But with this new feature, called Oculus Air Link, the headset can connect through Wi-Fi instead and use wireless streaming. Without the presence of a wire, players can enjoy VR titles like Stormland with a lot more freedom of movement, since they don't have to be conscious of the wire keeping them attached to the PC.

The announcement recommends that anyone who wishes to use Air Link have a strong and secure Wi-Fi network and a play space that's roughly within 20 feet of their Wi-Fi router. It's also stated that not every set-up will work with Air Link, since some PCs may not meet the requirements needed. But it adds that Oculus is continuing to improve Air Link's performance and compatibility for different set-ups, as well as its overall performance, visual quality, and ability to run in poor wireless scenarios. Full details can be read on Oculus' website.

The update will also include an upgrade that will allow games to run in 120hz, something that was suggested near the end of last year. Currently, the highest possible framerate is at 90hz. Developers will then be able to add 120hz support to already released games or release new ones that run at 120hz natively. Oculus does stress that while users can enable the option in the Experimental panel (the same place where Air Link can be activated), there are no apps that currently support 120hz. Quest 2 system software will remain at 90hz and Oculus Link support for 120hz will come at a later date.

Since the v28 software update is being rolled out gradually, the updates don't arrive immediately. In fact, there doesn't appear to be an exact date for when it will happen, with Oculus only stating that they will appear soon.

Compared to previous Oculus headsets, the Quest 2 has easily been the most successful. It's only been six months since it launched and has managed to sell more than all of the previous headsets combined and is especially popular with PC users.
