Square Enix has developed numerous popular titles over the years, like 2018's Octopath Traveler, which was launched as a traditional RPG exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. The game would eventually expand to other platforms, which has led to Octopath Traveler surpassing a new sales milestone.

The story of Octopath Traveler follows eight different characters, all with unique classes and Path Actions, which can be used to interact with NPCs. Players are able to explore the HD-2D world of Orsterra, with a impressionable art style not found in many other games. Octopath Traveler passed 1 million sales soon after its launch, and was generally well-received by critics and players alike.

The artwork posted alongside the announcement features Cyrus Albright, a scholar that generally functions as the party's mage and one of the main characters in the game. The tweet additionally thanked fans for all their support for the franchise, and said it was fitting that they made the announcement on the 25th of the month. Bravely Default 2 got a shoutout as well, which makes sense since it comes out tomorrow.

This is a great sales milestone for the Octopath Traveler team to meet, and shows how a new fan base has been created from this new IP. The game has been well-received enough that Square Enix is not only planning to make a sequel, but a prequel as well. The prequel is for mobile devices, and titled Octopath Traveler: Conquerors of the ContinentUnfortunately, the prequel is only available in Japan at the time, but it may eventually be brought to western audiences.

Fans of Octopath Traveler will have to wait for more information on the planned sequel, but there is plenty to tide them over until then. Bravely Default 2 is releasing soon, and Square Enix has announced the new Project Triangle Strategy. JRPG fans definitely have something to look forward to.

Octopath Traveler is available on PC, Stadia, and Nintendo Switch.
