How To Play Wordle

When it went viral back in early 2022, a bunch of Wordle clones appeared all over the internet. The original was created by powerlanguage and purchased by the New York Times Games. In order to play the first Wordle and the subject of this article, players will need to head to either the NYT Wordle site or the NYT Crossword app. Here's how to play.

First, players need to choose the best starting Wordle word. This word:

Should be five letters long and a real English word.
Should not be a proper noun.
Should not be a previous Wordle answer.
Should contain letters common to previous Wordle puzzles.

Type the starting word into the Wordle site, and press enter. This will cause the letters to change colors, giving players some clues as to the real answer.

Green letters are right.
Gray letters are incorrect.
Letters that turn yellow are right but in the wrong place or places in the word.

Given these clues, Wordle fans have just five more guesses to get to the right answer. They should try new words and get new color-coded letters until the run out of tries or get the answer correct.
