One of Nintendo's most historic gaming releases would have to be The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Being a game that succesfully translated the Zelda formula from 2D gaming to 3D gaming, it is lauded by fans and critics alike for the innovations that it had brought. It has also been released several times over the years, including a full-on remake in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for the Nintendo 3DS. One of these releases includes a five minute demo that was included in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the third game in the Super Smash Bros. franchise, released in 2007 for the Nintendo Wii. One feature introduced in this game was the "Masterpieces," which were several different retro Nintendo titles on disc. Each of these were free playable demos that also came with a time limit players had to play these games. These were all to promote Nintendo's Virtual Console games on the Wii Shop Channel, Ocarina of Time being one of those games. This demo had two pre-loaded save files for Young Link and Adult Link, along with only five minutes of playtime. Within these conditions, a route was found to skip most of the game and go to the Final Boss, Ganon.

The speedrunner, known as Savestate, previously beaten the Super Smash Bros. Brawl demo of Ocarina of Time earlier this week, beating the game under five minutes. The key to beating it was through the use of items that were included in the Japanese version of Super Smash Bros. Brawl's masterpiece demo for the game. Their expert use of the items was the key in triggering the warp glitch to the credits. This run involves the same strategy but using the warp to glitch to the stage of the final battle.

The run is a sight to behold, where after over 200 attempts at the speedrun, Savestate was successful in not only warping to the final battle with Ganon, but also beating him and triggering the final blow within seconds of the demo's time limit. This route, according to them, was much more difficult than the previous run, due to the strict amount of time given to defeat the boss compared to warping to the credits. This leniency was 45 seconds according to them, and that the successful run did contain some mistakes. Regardless, Savestate sets another Ocarina of Time speedrunning world record.

The final time of the speedrun was 4 minutes and 56 seconds, which is scraping by the time limit given to play this demo, the notification popping up in the middle of the cutscene of Ganon's defeat. This accomplishment is nothing to sneeze at, when normal speedruns of Ocarina of Time clock in around 17 minutes. Savestate expressed their joy having been able to beat the game within these strict conditions.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is available on Nintendo 64 and 3DS.
