It's been quite some time since the last BioShock game saw the light of day, with no new entries in the franchise since 2013's BioShock Infinite. However, it appears that that could possibly change as Obsidian, one of the most recent studios to be purchased Microsoft, is working in conjunction with Take-Two Interactive, the studio behind the BioShock franchise.

While nothing has been confirmed quite yet, Obsidian is currently planning to announce their next game at the Video Game Awards on December 6th. It's entirely possible that this could have something to do with the BioShock franchise, especially given how anxious Take-Two has been to create another game in the series. Plus, there aren't many studios that would be better suited to help create the next entry in the franchise than Obsidian is. It created both Fallout: New Vegas and the criminally underrated Pillars Of Eternity franchise, both of which are often cited for their deep commitment to roleplaying and gameplay systems.

The teaser art for Obsidian's new game also elicits certain BioShock vibes. Visiting Obsidian's website right now will open a full-page teaser for a "special message" from Spacer's Choice, which originally surfaced a few days ago. The logo features a ship blasting off through the stars, meaning that, if real, the next BioShock game could potentially be set in space. Of course, there is the possibility that this is just wishful thinking and the studios are working on something entirely different.

However, the idea of a BioShock game set in space almost feels like a no-brainer. There are very few other settings left that players could really dive into, pun intended. Plus, who wouldn't want to play a game dominated by half-mutant, Randian monster-people in space? The only potentially disappointing thing is that Obsidian is now owned by Microsoft, meaning that whatever the studio is cooking up will almost certainly be exclusive to Xbox and possibly PC.

Hopefully, Obsidian will have something cool to announce at the VGAs, even if it has nothing to do with BioShock whatsoever. Xbox is still lacking in the exclusives department, and whatever Obsidian is working on will almost certainly help bolster the lineup.

Obsidian's new project will be announced at the Video Game Awards on December 6th.
