Avowed impressed a lot of viewers with its initial cinematic trailer that draws of fantasy influences. For many the game was one of the most exciting titles that were shown at the Xbox Game Showcase, however, there are still a lot of questions about what features and mechanics will be in the game. Some believe that there are answers to these questions in the recent job listings posted by Obsidian Entertainment but it is worth noting that they could be connected to another project.

Many have drawn comparisons between Avowed and the Elder Scrolls games with some noting that Obsidian Entertainment has previously developed an impressive Fallout title for Bethesda. With that in mind, many are hoping that this upcoming title can elevate the Elder Scrolls formula. The job listings for Obsidian suggest that the upcoming Avowed will utilize new mechanics to make it stand out in the fantasy RPG genre.

In the listings, Obsidian is looking for “first-person and third-person melee combat” and this will answer the question that many had after watching the trailer, which was whether perspective could be changed in the game. However, the most interesting part of the job listings is that they reference cross-platform development. With this in mind, Avowed could be coming to more consoles than the Xbox Series X and could have an online element that allows players to team up on different systems.

However, the listing could simply be referring to the Xbox range and PC, and not be connected to online gameplay or other consoles. While the listings offer insight it is evident that they also raise questions. It will be interesting to see what these positions end up leading to and whether it is in on an existing or upcoming project. Equally, the game appears to have been in development for a while so the extra staff could be utilized in a variety of ways to bolster the offering. There are still plenty of questions surrounding Avowed but this listing may confirm the first-person and third-person functionality as well as cross-platform play for players.

Many will hope that the game can deliver on its promise and Avowed will be a standout title for the Xbox consoles. While it is too early to draw conclusions about the project, it is evident that Obsidian is growing and it stands to reason that the company is working on larger projects. If one of these projects is Avowed then players may be treated to a unique fantasy RPG.
